Guess what we named this?
Guess what we named this? What would you have named it?
It began life as a Rookie with it’s vector controlled thrust, Delta wing, speed brake, now has flaps, and a twin boomed rudders & stabilizer. Here at 5,400 MSL it lifts off within 150 feet and lands to a full stop within 300 feet.

With the specs you gave I would call it "One fun sweet flying plane"!!! I wanted to kit bash a HotSpot like you did but never got around to it....How does the thrust vectoring affect the flying of the model now that the moments have been changed???

Kevin try again..you are correct it is a sweet flying machine..just what the Rookie needed..powered by a JetCat P-120.
1.Clue nony got half the name correct
Built by Jerry Farmer aka.. Farmcat posts rarely flies often..

Clue number two is money Hummm..........CHEAPCAT!!!!!

But no kidding the boom mod plus flaps really helped the Rookie a lot. If canards were added I can't see how they would hurt anything. From my observations the Cheap Cat could stand a little more drag so 1/3 power could be held to the numbers...maybe we should try a little Crow with the ailerons and maybe even rudders.
I actually do use Crow-in on the rudders on my builtup BobCat XL, and it helps setup a higher drag profile for landing. Takes 3 channels to do that but with the new 14MZ no problem.

Yes, I guess that they don´t mind this one... I also named my plane Hotcat in this same spirit.

Jerry added some aluminum tape to the bottom of his Cheap Cat stab in case of a hot start, and his boom fin was extended in length.. to increase the moment arm for the elev & rudders.

Yes, I liked how this tail looked at the first drawings. I also wanted to keep the tail as far as possible
of the turbine hot plume, and later I find out that it didn´t affected the roll characteristics of the plane, it rolls in a very axial fashion. Perhaps you can give a try this tail in your Cheapcat, because it will allow more deflection in the thrust vectoring, and make things even more interesting!

I was going to suggest 'Copycat'

Copy Cat is a fair name... Your correct in saying Jerry borrowed a portion of one of the most proven design concepts by one of the best pilot/engineer/manufactures, the BVM Cat series.
The Rookie needed something to complete an otherwise interesting combination of aeronautical concepts. The increased wing area of the Rookies wing/fuse platform, can know be fully harnessed with the addition of the extended rudder booms & stabilizer, plus the added flaps. Think about the aerodynamic possibilities with a radio powerful enough to do everything. Thrust vectoring, Flap-Crow ailerons, speed brake, Crow-rudders, and preset braking for high altitude short field landings.
