Default Buying a Revo

I was wondering what items you would switch out of the truck. I heard steering servo and the optidrive. Does the optidrive control the reverse? I would need a FOC wouldn't I? Still deciding between the Savage and Revo but in another site, everyone keeps telling me to get the Revo.

I want to bash but I found out we have a track here in London, ON. Also, the Savage LE comes with what radio and is it ok? I only heard of replacing the steering servo. I also, wasn't sure which one to get. Some have said 645mg or 925mg(i think that's it). It's hard to know sometimes what to do.

The revo looks great but there seem to be more problems with it than the savage. Is this true?

I bought a revo 2 months ago, and so for I have replaced the output gears in the tranny three times, one other gear the last time, I'm on my 7th glow plug, rebuilt the front diff, new seals in the rear diff, and have had to spend $70 on a new set of tires just so I can run it off the sidewalk. My buddy bought a MGT ($160 less than my revo) at the same time, and he has only broken two a-arms. I have to tell you I'm not really impresed with the stock revo.

I have less problems with my revo than my buddy has had with the savage .25 le. I am not tring to start a bash. We did find out that the Savage had a very tall gear in it. 15 CB and 49 spur. I think that it would be closer with a better ratio.. The revo killed it in a dragrace also.. I have had to spend some time tuning the suspension and learning how to jump with it. Were the savage was much easier to jump out of the box. But I have it down now with the Revo. I have about 3/4 of a gallon gone since dec 27th and have not broke any thing. I would say If you are going to race Go Revo.. if you are going to bash I would not give up my revo for a savage. They are two differnt trucks. I hope this helps...

No offence but how hard are you beating that thing.... Do you still have the opti drive in it? Beat mine pretty hard on road jumping and landing, off road. I still have the same glow plug since it cam out of the box..

my revo is going over a year now and the only things i broke were 100% my fault not the trucks so far

spur gear - did not have the mesh right

reverse gear - took the optie drive out and put it in to reverse to hard while the truck was still moving

broken a-arm, bent push rod, bent toe link, broken axle, broken engine mount, and slightliy bent chassis(i bent it back) - my dad said i couldn't land on the trailer, but still my fault for trying

and that was a pretty hard hit to. watch

I have both a Revo and a Savage LE. I am glad I do not have to choose between them. My son prefers driving the Revo and I prefer driving the Savage. They both get a pretty good workout and they both stand up to our abuse very well. The Revo did get a few scratches today. We bent a rocker on the front (full speed launch off a 6' dirt ramp directly onto the left front wheel) and something is wrong with one of the back wheels. But it still runs and we did a couple more jumps after noticing the problems. I will say the Revo hands my Savage it's ass on a platter in a race. The Savage easily launches out front on takeoff and I get a good 4-5 foot lead over my son but the Revo passes me like I am sitting still. Well, not quite like I am sitting still, but it's no contest in a race.

Well I do bash pretty hard, but that is what I bought it for. I think the reason the front diff broke is because the springs are WAY to soft. I havn't had that issue again since I upgraded to the stiffest springs traxxas sells. As for the output gears, and I believe the reverse gear, still not sure why I should have had to replace them three times, maybe the optidrive messing up?

I would say maybe the Rev. servo is not right. I heard of the servo horn not being set right. I would make sure that that and the opti drive is setup properly.

The thing to remember Cocohugo, is for every bad revo report you read, you'll also read 100 great ones.

I've found the majority of Revo faults are a result of user error, but that's not to say you can't buy a lemon.

Stripped spurs, fouled plugs, broken bits and pieces can be avoided with a little self education and proper maintenance.

A guy I knew brought a Revo and complained to anyone that would listen how bad they were. He went through 8 plugs during break in and ended up toasting his trx 2.5r. Turns out he decided that a 25% nitro with 10% oil was a good fuel mix and lean his engine out way too much.. Revo's fault? Definately not, but to listen to him, the Revo was a truck to steer clear of.

Best bet is to get to a local track/bash spot and see if you could test drive a Revo/Savage. That's the only way you'll know which truck is for you... IMO.. Revo all the way.
