Default Mars or Lynx Transmitter Which One?

I am going to buy a new transmitter and am trying to decide whether to buy a new Mars or a new Hitec Lynx. Any suggestions? thanks....

I never owned the Lynx 3D but have asked a fellow racer if I can try it out.

I owned the M8, Mars, tried the Lynx 3D (in that order). Currently own the Mars.

My opinion on these radios (Lynx 3D, Mars, M8) are that the functionality they offer as very similar. The Mars fitted better on my hands and felt a bit better balanced tx for my use.

To me, the M8 LCD display was using up my batteries more during a race, so I preferred the display on the Mars to conserve power. Sometimes, I wish the Mars has a better/larger display to make adjusting a bit easier.

Lynx 3D seems to offer a lot of bang for the buck though but it never felt right during my five minutes of use.

My suggestion is to go to a hobby shop who sells the radios you are considering and hold them as if you are using them. Between these radios, it might come down to personal preference as opposed to functionality.

I have held the Mars and it felt very comfortable. I had heard from someone that the Mars was "the" radio to get but just wanted some others experiences....thanks...

I see that they have one that has "gold" trim on it and I guess it is a special edition or something. Does anyone know if this is available and where the best place to get a Mars radio would be?
Thanks....

The new radio with the gold trim is new "R" series. It is available but to me the bigger difference is the drop down wheel and memory. You can buy the drop down wheel kit for the regular version, costs about $45 so initially, the regular version can be cheaper. The regular version comes with 10 memories so that should be sufficient. It serves me well thus far.

You can try ultimate hobbies or sheldons hobbies.

I found one last night from a local guy in town here. It is almost new with 10 memory and two receivers and all the papers and original box for 150.00 so I bought it. That should be a pretty good price shouldn't it?

When you said no module, I am assuming that you are referring to changing from say, 27mhz to 75mhz?

That is one of strength of the M8. Another strength of the M8 is the included DSC. In the Mars, you have to buy a separate unit.

How is the new Futaba 3PK? I believe it is PCM? This radio should be competing with the R1.

You're talking about the novak xxtra receiver. This receiver can be used to any transmitter. I am using one now for my mars.

PCM is another type of radio modulation.

You can use the Novak XXTRA receiver. Go here to read more:

http://www.teamnovak.com/products/re.../xxtra_new.htm

You can also use the new receiver from KO. Go here to read about this:
http://kopropo.com/KO-HOME.htm then click on Products, then Receivers.

I like the Novak XXTRA for the reason that I only buy transmitter crystals. The KO receivers are very good also just in case you want to stay with the same product line.
