DA-100 in 30% Goldberg Ultimate?
Has anyone shoe horned a DA-100 in a 30% Goldberg Ultimate? If so let me know how the CG worked out, how much does it weigh and hows it fly?
Thanks!

Why the DA, it will be heavy with that motor. If you want a big expensive twin get the BME. At least the weight won't kill it! Even the 105 would work very well.

Not only too much weight, but too much weight up front, and you'll be adding
more weight to get it to balance correctly enough to fly, increasing the wing
loading beyond design limitations. Should you lose power inflight, you would be
very lucky to do a successful dead-stick landing.
the DA is a great motor. Get a great plane for it. You'll be happy you did.

Thanks for the responses guys, on your BME Ultimate do you have unlimited vertical and the ability to punch out of a hover?
Thanks,
Alan

I am sitting at 25lbs on a 70.5" WS i can't remember the lenght right off. I swing a 26 x 10 menz at 6300 yes the plane is a rocket if you put the hammer down. Its a very fast set up even with a 10 pitch prop. this is the 30% BG Ultimate. I think the sq inches were somewere around mid sixteens. Wt should have been lower according to the paperwork maybe to much paint on my end she flies true and very good. Ailerons are super fast at 25 degrees. I have 40 degrees on the elevator for 3d throws..... I had the iginiton coverted over to falkon a few weeks ago from C & H. The work was complete by Keith at BME. No rpm changes just going to see if its more reliabe than C & H. Now it has smaller spark plugs and timing set to 2 degrees BTDC.

Hey Gumby2, I'm still in the prosess of putting mine together. I useing a BME-100 and it isn't as powerfull as the DA 100. so I think it will do great with the DA.
So far I am pleased with the quality of the plane. All the incidences check out perfect. Although I did get 2 left elevators with mine , a quik e-mail, had the (right) one on the way. less than a week.

Hey krayzc-RCU, that engine weighs just slightly less than the DA-100 and your wing span is the same as the Goldberg Ultimate! Did you need to put any weight in the tail to balance it? Do you like the way it flys? Hows the wing loading feel in the air?
Thanks Again,
Alan

Gumby2!
No extra weight was needed for balance i have the battery under the pilot and i have had it behind the rudder servo. It did little to change the balance or the way it flew. Mine comes in very control and slow with a blip here and there to land. I do not have to fly it to the ground. The plane is very well behaved. With a 10-pitch prop, i can make this thing scream on full throttle up lines. I have tried it with a 24 x 10 x 3 mejzlik and the 26 x 10 mejzlik and menz. I like the two blades best they produce the best for my needs on this bird. I run a three blade on a 40% extra and i love that set up. I am running a mejzlik right now 26 x 10. I like the menz but the ground clearance takes its toll o the tips i had to have them splitting slightly from beating up the grass. My cabane came with a balance hole for that issue. Is that the way your plane is set up also? Mine also carries 2 degrees negative thrust so that makes the tail come up very quickly on take off and it seems like it would tip on over if i let it. Here is a pic of were my lipo battery is mounted right now. I started off flying the bird with a 2700 NMhi that was mounted behind the rudder servo that battery was 6.8 oz. With the bigger birds the balance is not at touching as the smaller ones. I will moving my battery back behind the rudder servo sometime this year. I have not flown the plane with my new converted iginiton but the power is the same on the ground. I have not put the bird back full together after putting the motor back in. My hatch stays mounted down from the cabane straps. I am running a smoke tank on mine i installed a clear piece of canopy so that i could see the fuel level of both CG located tanks. Does that kit also have a removeable tail and rudder? I don't think your kit requiires flying wire does it, mine does?

RE: DA-100 in 30% Goldberg Ultimate?
Thanks again for the info krayzc-RCU. At this point I have not purchased it yet, just planning the setup. One of the reasons I like the GB Ultimate is the fact that it comes with one piece wings. I'm a lazy SOB, I like to fly but I don't want to spend a ton of time putting it together and tearing it apart . I've had 5 ultimates (still have 3) plus a weeks solution, all except the weeks I can put in the van in one piece... even the DP Ultimate. I like plenty of power to spare so I expect to follow this setup and build it before summer. Thanks a ton for your input, it's great to see the pictures you provided and hear the real world flight performance from someone who has basically the same setup!

i know what u mean about putting a kit together. This was a kit if an ARF would have been out i would have gotton one. Until Chip won with a bipe the Dave Patrick ultimate was all that one had if u ask me. I tried to find someone selling one of the old Ohio model bipe and could not find one in decent shape. I looked at the weets planes to. A year or so after Chip one you could find bipes all over the place. I would have looked at or would have had many choices now a days and that is a good thing. There are kits out there like it cool without flying wires i can dig that part.

RE: DA-100 in 30% Goldberg Ultimate?
Gumby,
I am about 80% done with my Goldberg 30% Ultimate. I did a lot of research before I picked this one. It's big, light, has a one piece wing, and if it flies like the 120 glow size, it will be a keeper. I have a ZDZ 80 and a Mezlik 24 X 10 3 blade prop on mine. It looks wicked! There is a couple folks that have 3w 75 turning 22 X 12 3 blade and love the power. The ZDZ is lighter and has a little more power making it a little better choice. However, the absolute best combo for this plane in my opinion whould be the BME 110 Extreme. It is just a hair lighter than the ZDZ 80, has more power and will fit inside the cowl without cuts. I would have went with the BME only I couldn't get one even when I had the cash and called BME several times to give them my $1,300, they wouldn't return my call nor my local hobby shops calls (and they are a BME distributor!!!).
Have fun planning!
Shawn

RE: DA-100 in 30% Goldberg Ultimate?
I'm sorry, but a biplane with only 1690 squares will fly heavy at anyting over 20-21 pounds. If you are dead set on a 100 cc engine, there are several larger, light-flying ultimates out there to choose from, like the BME 37% Ultimate. it has somewhere in the area of 2000 square inches and can be built to 25 pounds with the BME 110.
