BUILD WITH CHAIN
ok boys and girls i bought a 5th scale onroad eletric car from walmart. on sale for 40.00 i am trying to retro fit a homilte weed motor on this . has any tried to use sprockets and a chain to drive this. my ideal will be to use a axle and sprockets from a peddle type tractor and car made for a kid. the real axle assy will have the sproket in the center i will try to use the existing housing that was on the car to house all of this. just wondering if someone has tried

RE: BUILD WITH CHAIN
you're just going to burn up the drivetrain. Walmart R/C's have plastic gears, plastic drive shafts, they don't have bearings, and the have plastic diffs. Nothing on the drive train will stand up to the power of thee weed whacker

This site is focused on hobby grade RCs, not toys. I think you'd have to completely replace the drivetrain to make it even remotely feasible. Not only is the RC you bought plastic, its cheap plastic. I think trying to give the car any more power than that for which it was designed will result in quite the spectacular wreck. I'm not trying to bash you, just letting you know that for $40 your options are significantly limited. Good luck, though. If it works I hope you'll post pics and a vid!

RE: BUILD WITH CHAIN
I kinda see what you are trying to do, does it look like a mini go-kart but with a car body? I think the only thing you will be able to use from that walmart toy is the Body and the sterring assembly. The frame or chassy may need to be completely replaced with aluminum, the weedwacker motor would have too much torque for the plastic chassie.
Post some pics and videos when you get it going.
