I really like the look of the Quick.

Are there any downsides to going for one ?

the ark isn't. If you want a lil heli i suggest ebay, just look who you buying from. You can usually get most Ark, Heli max, and Trex Upgrades parts and ect. for retail - 50% off. Depending how good of an ebayer you are. I get my stuff from emomo1 on there just because he's much cheaper and faster on shipping and parts too. Example I called tower for 4 bags of screws there total was like $7.00 + 3.99 S/h and it would arrive in 10 days. I got and Ark Alum Bearing set, Crash kit, Alum Boom holder, and Alum counter gear case for $54 + 5.50 s/h. And it was ordered Tues afternoon and it got here Thurs morn. On the other side i got a Ark 400 combo with motor lipo esc servo's charger from rc-expert for 220 + 35 S/H Took 14 days to arrive from hong kong the charger didn't work, one of the servo's was bad and the esc came with no instructions at all. But it still was a great deal. So just reserch who you buy anything from and you should get a really good deal.

also you may wanna stay with Trex or Ark for upgrades and parts.

I don't think there's much need to upgrade the Quick as it pretty much comes with everything upgraded out of the box.
The thing thats tempting me is the size of it. 890mm rotor diameter vs 650mm [8D]

The EP-8 is larger than the t-rex. It's not quite a .30 size, but it's close.
The kit may be cheaper, but the power setup to run it will be quite a bit more expensive compared to the t-rex or X400, so that's something you might want to consider. It's definately a nice looking kit though, no doubt about it. Well, with the exception of the landing skids, they look ugly..

Yeah the skids don't look the best, I think it's just because it's cut from plate, not individual tubes. Looks pretty sturdy though.
The power setup does look like it could run to big bucks (well euros) UK Prices = £200++ then add lots of batteries on top. So including those and convert to dollars, prob another $600+
Of course I'd need some mini servos, then my gyro is not that great.
Better not tell the wife if I get one how much it cost

No kiddin'
I'm well into $1000 on my eco-8 which is about the same size, and i'm not even running LIPOS! Too expensive.. . I'm happy with NIMH performance right now, theres no lacking in the power area. Flight times are a bit shorter compared to the 6000 MAH you get with Lithium, but it's a small sacrifice for alot of money saved.

Well - the Quick of Japan EP-8 makes the TREX-SE look positivley overpriced and underspecified. But as has been said above, it is a bigger heli, and it needs more money spending on motor, esc, and batteries.
You do not HAVE to use LI-PO's though you can use 10-14 NIMH cells on the EP-8 if you wish, you will end upwith less flight time than with LI-PO's.
The only real upgrade available for the EP-8 is a carbon fibre frameset, and even that is very cheap. Other than that nothing needs to be touched.
MFIS.net will look after you for parts as well, if you are in europe. If your in the USA may be a bit more awkward for parts.
