House of Kolor paints on lexan
Hey I posted this in the painting forum but no hits so I thought I would try here....
Does anyone know or has tried House of Kolor Paints on their Lexan bodies? I'm able to get HOK paints for cheaper than fascolor paints. I'm just wondering if they will be compatible.

If you mean the good paint for real cars it wont work. I had a buddy paint a body with that type of paint and it looked real good but when he went to cut out the wheels the just chiped off in big flakes. too bad cause he took the time to mix a nice custom white pearl. but long storie short that paint doesn't have enough flex.

HOK lacquers actually work really well...but you need to keep the layers very thin. Lightly scuffing the lexan prior to painting will also help with adhesion. Backing the body with a flexible coat like Parma Faskoat will help keep the thinner lacquer colors from flaking. Spazstik paint is lacquer based also and has colors very similar to H.O.K.
Here's a really good forum to help you out w/ any custom painting tips...

You say house of color paint but what type? Like all automotive paint that are different type for different things. Someone here said that they used it and it chipped off ya I am sure it did. Lexan paint is self etching and flexible so if you want to use the House of colors paint you will have to add a flex additive to it and it wont matter how thick you put it on. Then sand the inside of the body with 1500 grit or finer paper (get wet sand paper and use water) and it should stay on just fine there are a few more little thing I could tell you to help but I need to know more about the paint line you want to use.

HOK uerethanes, like the Kandy Koncentrates will also work well and will be less brittle...adhesion is the key. As long as the surface is properly prepped and cleaned, I have not had to sand the inside of the shell, but if you are having adhesion issues a wet 3M scotchbrite (gray) pad works well also. IMO flex additive would be overkill (not that it wouldn't work) but generally flex additive is added to clearcoats rather than basecoat colors. Using an acrylic (waterbased) product such as Faskoat will fuel proof the paint, protect the inside of the body from scratches and is flexible. I've also had good luck with rustoleum crystal clear enamel in a spray can as a final fuel proof layer.

Well, I actually dont know what type of paint it is as I am pretty new to this. I was thinking of the Kandy or Metallics. At the industrial shop I work at I had to fill in for the paint shop when our painter quit and ended up getting the painting bug. I was having a lot of fun. I don't get to do that anymore unfortunatly but I now have the bug. I've only painted one RC body so far and looking forward to doing more and learning as I go. Here is the body I did.
