Default Oil for MVVS 1.6???

I'm going to run my engine this weekend. I know the 45 and the 58 recommend Mobil 2T synthetic for break-in. Does this recommendation apply to the 26 and 35 also? I have both engines NIB.

Thanks again for your help.

Robert,

The Mobil 1 2T is recommended for all MVVS gas engines, including the 26 cc and the 35 cc.

Any other oil that surpasses the JASO FC requirements can substitute the Mobil 1.

Thank You Dar.

I've always been a little confused by that recommendation because in automobiles and motorcycles it has always been recommended to break in the engines on Fossil oil first then switch to Synthetics. The reasoning being that the synthetic would keep the piston ring from seating for a very long time causing blow by and oil consumption.

I have to believe that MVVS, and you, know more than I do about this subject so I will follow their, and your, recommendations.

Thank you again. You are always a great source of technical information.

Bob,

I know some hot-rod engine builders, like Lingenfelter, American Speed, Etc, do tell you to do the break-in on petroleum base oil.

Can you please show me where General Motors, FoMoCo and Mopar tell you to do the same?

...They don't...

Strangely, Webra (for their glow engines) still tell you to use Castor, or a break-in synthetic, to do the initial break-in...

Sorry for the 'official' reply (Robert) and thank you for your appreciation.

Dar,

Since the "Big 3" ship their automobiles with oil (presumeably Fossil oil except for the Corvette) they probably don't expect the folks who purchase them to take them home and change the oil before the first recommended service interval. After that, as long as the oil that you use meets or exceeds their specs. I don't think they care what you use.

I've bought Japanese cars for years, mostly Nissan, and have always used Mobil 1 synthetic and changed the oil every 3-4 thousand miles. I never experienced a mechanical failure in any of them. Good Stuff!

Take care!

Have a good weekend!

P.S. A little formality never hurt anyone!

Extract from the Red line Oil Flier, with emphasis on the differences between racing oils down to smokeless oils.
All these oils surpass Jaso FC, but only the racing oils have the rquired high viscosity index, heat stability and lubricity needed in MVVS engines. That is why MVVS prescribes fully synthetic two stroke racing oil, mixed at (not leaner than) 1:40 What RedLine states about their oil, pretty much applies to all competition oil manufacturers.
Quote:
"
The greatest degree of cleanliness and lubricity is provided by our Two-
Stroke Racing Oil. The Two-Stroke Racing Oil provides the cleanest
and best lubricity, which is far superior to castor bean oil, petroleums,
and other synthetics. This lubricant provides excellent lubricity and
perfect cleanliness even in race engines operating at 15,000 rpms.
But not every engine has such demanding requirements. That is why
we have many other two-cycle lubricants to lubricate factory stock or
slightly modified engines with a less costly product without making
any compromise in durability. The main difference in our two-cycle
lubricants is the temperature stability of the basestocks used. The
more thermally-stable the basestock, the higher the cost of the lubricant,
with the Two-Stroke Racing Oil product being the cleanest and
most thermally stable product on the market and the Smokeless
being the least thermally stable within our product line
.
