I started to use this great fabric again, but when applying heat for the final shrink, the gloss varies where I pressed the shoe iron to the fabric. The temp selection was never varied, but there is a distinct shadow of the shoe when viewed at certain angles. I remember many years ago, one modeller told me he used auto wax on enamel paint....would this help?

Polishing compound may be better, then some wax. Sounds like you may have scorched the finish slightly. Part of the problem with the Coverite fabric is the extremely heavy paint job they put on the fabric.

FWIW - The next time you cover with fabric, try Solartex. It is lighter than Coverite (even with a clear coat), the adhesive is excellent (no Balsarite required ) and just as strong. The only thing I suggest with Solartex is a clearcoat afterwards. The weave is more open, and without the clear coat the fabric will get dirty easier.

The gloss variance comes from unevenly applied heat. Take a heat gun and go over the model until the gloss becomes equal.

Thanks all.....I'll try the heat gun first. I guess even the shoe of the iron has temp variation across the surface. Good looking finish despite the weight, tho'.

Doesn't the glue actually seep through the weave with Century 21st Fabric?
