Default Help in removing a bearing.

Does anyone know how to take the bearing out of the inside of the 2.5R. They are the bearing that are on either side of the crank shaft. I got the outer bearing off but can't get the inside bearing off.

Tried the screwdriver but it didn't work. I'll have to see if I have a punch.

try a socket just small enough to fit into the crank case and rides all the way around the bearing... DONT BEAT ON IT, but tap on it evenly and the bearing should slide out. you may need to add some force with the swing, but dont scrape your knuckles on the ground making that swing..lol be carefull when putting in new ones that they are strait when installing them. they ll slide in if they are going in strait. if they are not being put in strait, you ll be scraping your knuckles making the swing, and most likely ruin the bearings or case in the process.

I have heard that a lot folks heat the engine case up in the oven for about 15 minutes or so..then the bearing should be able to be punched out

It's not the bearing that is right behind the flywheel, it is the one that is farther in.

That's always worked for me. Just be careful it will be hot - duh
And when it's time to reinstall the bearing freeze it for about 30-45 minutes. It goes back a lot easier that way.

I used a propane torch to heat up the inner bearing then stuck a screw driver throught where the carb goes and got it out. Mine was totally wasted though there was nothing left of the bearing except the outter race.

Be careful digging around inside the block with metal tools. You don't want to nick and gouge a lot of surfaces. Be espacially careful of the bearing races.

Heating is the only safe way to remove the bearings. If you push / drive them out while the case is below 350 F you will damage the fit in the case and the new bearings will spin in the case and then the new bearings and crankcase will be ruined.

I got it out. I put it in the oven at 350. I do have a little bit of damage done on the inside and I hope it will not be a problem. I was going to buy an OS 18tm and have the money saved up but I really wasn't ready to take that step.
