New 3.3 tranny in old pro 15 t-maxx
I was just wondering if it would be easy to put in a new 3.3 tranny into my old t-maxx.. it is the old pro 15. My concern is that new opti drive, would I have to do any mods to get that thing working properly or is it a direct drop it. Thankyou for all you advice in advance!!

don't use the opti drive...it sucks big time. Causes glitching and sometimes may cause your truck to shift to reverse at WOT. It has happened to me and probably many, many others on these forums

RE: New 3.3 tranny in old pro 15 t-maxx
I guess I am (was) one of the lucky ones but my Opti Drive (radio) never glitched and caused any problems. I ran it for close to two gallons with the stock radio. I have since removed it as I am now using my JR PROPO R-756 Transmitter with a Spektrum Pro module with matching receiver. Going to reverse now requires turning a thumb wheel a lot to cause a shift so extremely unlikely to be done by accident.
It seems from conflicting reports that the Opti Drive is an engineering marvel.
Some marvel that it works so well why some marvel at why it keeps destroying the tranny gears.
My feeling are that it does prevent the reversing servo from activiting while the truck is in motion as long as the radio does not glitch. I think that the 27 MHz band is a very risky band to run such a vechile with in the first place. I understand it being a universal band legal in all countries and it makes good marketing sense but there is just to many chanches for interference IMO. I have flown fixed wing, helis, rand cars / trucks and boats since 1963 ,have been a CB er and am also a Ham. I speak from years of experience. Anyone care to guess how many kiddie RC toys are sold with 27 MHz radio. How about all those el cheapo walki talkies. There are also a few industrial users running lot of power on 26.995 (Ch.1) which is why most RC equipment does not use that frequency. These RC surface frequencyies are not that far apart and most of these 27 MHz receivers are not dual conversion ,narrow band one.
They are very inexpensive and sometimes work very well.

My optidrive shifted in to reverse at WOT and I had my Airtronics MX-3 75 MHz on it. That was the only thing that would glitch.

Wow, thanks for that info. I didn't know all that. From hearing that I think the first upgrade anyone should do is the radio system.
