DFs & Underground Sprinkler Systems
Well, last night and much to my surprise, I discovered that an underground sprinkler system had been installed at the stadium since the last time I had flown there. I had just taken off and was flying 10 ft high across the field when all of the sudden right before I reached the other side I heard, spit, hiss, shhhhhh......! Then these 30 ft streams of water started shooting out of the ground overlapping in different directions! [X(] That scared the shizzle out of me. I just floored the throttle climbing straight up and barely missed the streams and mist. That would have been a train wreck if it had been just 30 seconds earlier. After fixing that [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4395751]loose connection[/link] in my Tx, this is what I get. [>:] So, if you are flying in a maintained grassy area, you might want to make a sweep for hidden sprinker heads.
The only other thing that happened was that I got dive bombed by some birds because I was apparently too close to their nests.

Yeah, I have to admit it was kind of thrilling but only becaue I escaped untouched. The DF was just ridiculously close to a direct hit and these are those big industrial kind that shoot like a firehose! I guess it would have been worse if I had been standing near or on top of one when it activated. [X(] I am going to find out what the timer schedule is for those sprinklers. Those birds weren't flocking, they are taking turns diving at the DF and screeching the whole time.

This is some really cool video of several hawks getting aggressive with this guy's AP plane. He has a camera mounted so it faces the tail and these birds come diving at it one after the other. The second post has the video link.
