Default 3W 70 vs ZDZ 60

Just wondering who has run these engines and how a 3W 70 stands up to a zdz 60. I know both swing 24x10s, rpm figures would be nice

rpm's really don't mean too much, differen't props give differen't readings. The 70 has more power than the ZDZ, plus it will swing a 26x10 prop with no hesitation.I fly the 3w 70 and it yanks my 35 pound Ziroli p-47 around with no problem.I broke the engine in on a 90 inch staudacher that weighed 25 pounds and it had unlimited vertical. My 70 with a mejzlik 24x10 is hitting around 7400 but I run my engines a little rich. Hope that helps

you are getting 7K+ out of your 3W 70? Is it the rear intake version? I have the 70ius, side carb version. I thought most got around 6200-6400 with a menz 24x10, thought that the 26x10 was more for the 3W 75 , not the 70, anyhow, I have the 70 and its going on a lanier edge that should weigh 21-22 lbs, so hope it pulls it

Which 70 do you have? I have the 70ius, side mounted carb, if yours is the rear, that would explain more power

The ZDZ-60 and ZDZ-80 share the same bottom end, so the weight is just about the same. My 80 single will turn a Menz-s 24x10 at 7,000 rpm or a Menz-S 26x10 at 6,500 rpm. The throttle goes both ways.....

the 70 I have is the rear carb and is 3 years old sorry but the 7400 was a misprint I didn't proofread my reply,it should read 6400 with a 24x10 and I run my motors a little rich sorry! and yes I have run a 26x10 on the motor with no problems, don't know what the rpm's were though I never checked.

when I tune my motors I usually top them out and then back them off about 200 to 300 rpm, that way I know I am safe. The Mejzlik prop turned right around 6700 to 6800 on my 70 but like I said I turn my high end out just a little more than most people probably do.I run Cactus Oil too and it has made a difference, motor runs cooler and the inside looks as if it was brand new still. I have been running the oil for 2 seasons this year will be the third season most people don't believe it but the oil has made a big difference in the performance of my motors.
