Has anybody used some type of coating in a aersol can on the wing tube so that you dont get the black oxidized coating all over your hands and plane.

Hey Dennis,
anodized coatings on aluminum are done with electrolysis in a acid bath at time of manufacture.
some plating shops- like the ones that chrome bumpers may be able to do it for you .
you might be better off getting a carbon fiber one?
Hows Texas ?

Auto paint wax, do it 2 or three times. some times you have to repeat in a month or so. I've tried metal polish also, Carnauba wax seemed to work best for me.
good luck

Go to a gun shop and buy a can of protectant spray for guns. This stuff hardens up after it is sprayed on and provides a lot of protection for the metal. I use it on all of the metal tables of machinery in my work shop. Sounds like your tube may be 6061. The formation of this "surface corosion" on the surface of the metal actualy protects the metal from further corosion. I have also used Armorol (sp?) rubbed in until it seems dry.
The name of the spray "EEZOX" Premium Gun Care. My can is a 7oz. spray can and cost me $ 7.95 at the local gun shop. One can will last a long time as a little goes a long way. If you own a table saw or band saw with a metal table this stuff is great for that. One application lasts for months and it just requires a dusting of the surface.
Hope this helps

RE: Non-Anadized wing tube
I take mine to a local plater. As long as I don't care if they get done in Gold, black or clear and I come in and pay him cash on a friday he hits me for 25.00 per tube.
