Default Aluminum Spinners

I just received my first aluminum spinner, I have always used the plastic one so this is a first for me I also have the adapter that I need, it just seems to easy to mount to the engine, do I need to loctite the bolt for the spinner or anything, or do I just tighten her down and let her fly? I'm just kinda nervous about it falling off in flight, the're not the cheapest you know, or worse flying off and hurting someone[X(]

Thanks

They are pretty nice aren't they.

On mine I have never used loc tite & they've never come loose on me. You do have to be a little careful so you don't over tighten them too. if you really wrench it down you can make the back plate flex somewhat & that's not good.

You do not need to Lock-Tite the spinner bolt. You must tighten it down
properly....keeping in mind that it will need to be checked for tightness
periodically.

Having lost a 3" aluminum spinner in flight (yeah, it was tight....at some point anyway), I now use loctite on all my spinners bolts. Does not hurt anything and is cheap insurance. So far, so good. I wonder if electric starts tend to have a loosening effect on spinner bolts?

Thats what I was worried about, I always use an electric starter, it is required at my field for safety purposes.

I use purple loctite on everything I can. I had too many spinners and props come off before. and yes, I had checked tightness before I flew.

I have had the bolts shear off--lost at least 2 that way. Both were on high revving two stroke engines with tuned pipes.

I had two depart in the air--actually found one, but had the same thing happen latter and lost it. Replaced the one on the YS 45 but last time flying the plane I noticed it was loose. Went to tighten and discovered the bolt had sheared mostly thru--a few turns of the screw driver and it popped off. I am either using bolts that are too hard, or too soft. I try to set the adapter nut up so the bolts are as short at possible. I heard that long reach bolts are prone to shearing. Any thoeries would be appreciated.

A lot of spinners these days come with super tough allen bolts that
hold the spinner on. The old fashioned ones with the soft as putty
hardware store screws could fatigue and break arter awhile. []

So you think a harder bolt would be work? I wonder if that would make them more prone to breaking due to vibration. I can buy hardened bolts at the hardware store.

The hardened bolts are much stronger, for sure. The softer bolts/screws would
break more easily from vibration and fatigue.
