Picked up my first savage 25 today, im stoked by the way. Had the store to run it for me just to give me a heads up on mixture and it was running fine, get it home to run it in and it keeps flaming out on me??? had it run for about 2 min then nothing. Its got me stumped on whats going on. If anyone can help me it would be great. Cheers.[8D]

Have you checked you glow plug is ok. It is common for a new engine to blow out a couple of plugs during run in.

Yeah checked the plug. is glowing nicely. Its not even half a tank old. would it be advisable to start flush again or try and get it right from where they r set now?

RE: S-25 keeps flaming out???
Try a new plug first thing and reset the carb to factory settings.
Just because a glow plug "glows" does not prove it's good.
Next, please describe exactly what the engine is doing. "Flaming out" is not real helpful.
Is it even broken-in yet?
Does it start and die when you remove the ignitor?
Does it start and idle but die on acceleration?
Does it run fine for two minutes and die.
What kind of temp is the engine at when it dies - is it running long enough to heat up?
The more detail about how it runs and sounds, etc you can provide, the better folks can help.

when you said you picked it up and had the shop run it for you, you mean it was broke in by them or just started once? is it brand new?

I recommend you get a couple glow plugs, as you should all ways keep a couple extra. If that does not do any good I recommend you lean it out about a 1/8 of a turn if it still dies try 1/8 of a turn more. What fuel are you running?

RE: S-25 keeps flaming out???
OK, That helps some.
After the engine dies remove and look at the plug. Is it grayish and dry, brown or black and dry or wet? Let us know.
Get a new glow plug and go back to factory carb settings and let us know what it does then.
You may have to lean out (turn clockwise) the hsn some from factory settings. Lean it 1/4 turn at a time and test between changes. Never make big changes and never change more than one needle/setting at a time w/o testing first.
At this point do not lean it more than 1 full turn.
Good luck

RE: S-25 keeps flaming out???
The engine is not broken in yet. Mine ran crappy for the first 2 tanks. Would stall out, die when giving it a tiny bit of throttle ect. After the 2nd tank it starts getting all better. I started tuning a little more on each tank and by the 5th tank I was pulling wheelies all around the yard. I just started leaning the HSN and LSN a little at a time with each tankfull and used the trim control to mantain idle. After the 4th tank I adjusted the idle screw. I've got 2 gals thru it now and it runs great!

Just an update, I've changed the plug and taken it back to "flush" and started all over again. All is good now, looks like it was a dud plug from the factory. Started the second tank and all is fine. Just want to thank everyone who posted info for me, It's been a great help and ill be sure to come back and ask questions and give help where i can. Once again cheers ppl[8D]

Just one thing though. It probably was not a "dud" plug. The overly rich settings of break in are really hard on glow plugs. It's not all that unusual to go through two, or even three, glow plugs while breaking-in an engine. I've had new plugs last less than 1/2 a tank when breaking-in. Conversely I've had engines go through break-in and use the same glow plug for a gallon or more. It's a crap shoot.
The moral of the story????
Always have a couple spare glow plugs on hand.
HINT: Any time an engine will start and run but dies as soon as the glow ignitor is removed, replace the glow plug - no matter what it looks like. 80% of the time that will fix the problem.
