Default Ultra Stick Lite or Giant Big Stick

For my first gas plane I am going simple and cheap.

I am considering the Giant Big Stick or the Hanger 9 Ultra Stick Lite.

In your opinion which is better for sport acrobatics and faster forward flight.

Thanks,
Mike

Check out Jerry's Big Boy. They say it flys better than the sticks. Supposedly the sticks are poor copies of the JBB but I don't know for sure. Here is a link [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2557012/tm.htm[/link]

Hi Mike,

That's the plane I was trying to remember when we spoke last night.
It has an 80" wingspan and calls for a .91-1.20 four stroke.

I think the thread bubbap51 linked should have some information on gas engine use.

Frank

From the two you mentioned, the ultra stick is WAY more agile and aerobatic. I own the giant stick, and my dad owns the ultra stick. I have compared them extensively. However, all I wanted was an easy sunday flyer that would be big and easy to see in the sky. I have enough rockets in the trailer. I use the giant stick as a buddy box plane for my wife, and she does really well on it.

I have the Great Planes Giant Big Stik, with the Zenoah G-23. The plane is large, smooth, handles most manuvers, and slows down and lands like a trainer. A fun plane.
Here are two links to it flying on July 4th, 2006. The first one is taking off, and the daughter looses it. The second one is longer.
I fully enjoy this plane. One of the best flying planes I have ever flown.

Go with the GIANT BIG STIK.I have flown the 40 the 60 and now the GIANT. Nothing beats them.Mine has a Fuji BT-32B with a 18x8 APC At full throttle its great. With the crow active it will fly scary slow.[X(] You wont be disappointed,if you put enough engine on it.

I have heard of the wings snapping on a low g pullout. What is the quality of the plane like? I would like to put a 40 gasser on it. Do you need to go through it and reglue everything?

Hi

I have had 3 ultra sticks, all with gas engines, what a fun plane with the flaps and ailerons.

A g-26 flies it great and just sips gas, you will need a computer radio or flat capable radio but it is a great airplane.

Your video makes it look as though the Giant Big Stik is moving along at a fairly good speed. What size prop are you using on the G23? TIA

I have both the "BIG" stick and the Hanger 9 USL.. They both have G26s and are wonderful cheap models. The Ultra Stick Lite has an RC ignitions converted to EI G26 and it is a sweet motor. It is faster and lighter then the Big Stick and some days the extra speed and unlimited vertical preformance are a little more fun.. I recomend them both as "great" well worth the money, fun models..
