Default cub engine ???

Iam bulding a great planes j3 cub with a 90 inch wing what would be the best 4 stroke engine for this plane. I was thinking about a saito 90-100 twin or a 120- 150 single saito or os This plane calls for a 91 4 stroke but i am planing to put flotes on this and think i will need sone more power for the flotes . thanks for any help.

Default cub engine ???

I'm just finnishing a Sig 1/4 J3 cub and I'm putting a RCV 120 in it.

These engines are very good and use rotary valve technogy.

You can find them at http://www.rcvengines.com/ Take a peek!

Default cub engine ???

i think you have to go up to 120 - 160 if you thinking about twins in a 90" cub (i would go fore 160)

Default Cub Power

My Sig 1/4 (108") flew very scale with a tired O.S. FS61. You don't need much unless you're one of those who would demand two or three vertical rolls.

For water ops I put in a S.T. 91 and it was much more than required. It weighed 13#. Tex

Default Engine Choices

I have a 14lb 1/4 scale Cub with an O.S. FT160 twin and it's a rocket ship! You aren't going to need this much power on a 90" Cub, even on floats. I think a 91 four stroke should be just fine. If you really want to use a twin, then I would think a 100 twin will do just fine. If money isn't an issue, and it was my airplane, I'd go with the 100 twin....you just can't beat the sound of a twin!

Cheers, Nigel

Default cub engine ???

I found a good deal on a saito 130 twin today . I know that they do not make them any more but it is new and if you take care of a saito they last a long long time .I think this might be the thing four this plane i know it is a lot of power for this cub but it should be a lot of fun thanks for the help everyone.

I actually think that Great Planes had 90 to 120 size engines in mind.......The most RELIABLE would be the ELECTRONICALLY FUEL INJECTED OS .91. And from what I have heard, the 91 would give you very good scale flight characteristics.

But that engine is pricey at $750 from Tower which is $50 off reg price.

There was a guy selling one on here for $600, I think that was his bottom$ and it was BRAND NEW...do a search in the FOR SALE forums.....
