Default Traxxas TQ channel?

Can the crystals on the traxxas tq radio be changed to anything other than 1-6? I currently have a jr xr2 that came with a xxx-t and it runs channel 5 and the revo 3.3 that the lhs has runs channel 5. Plus my friend that just bought a nitro rustler is running channel 5. Are the lower channels more common? If I was to change the radio in the revo to something else what would be a good choice with out spending alot? What all would need changed?

Thanks

There is only 6 am 27 channels. Get a new set of crystals, i find here that 3 and 4 are used the least.

Yes, there are 6 more available channels for AM 27 mhz from radio shack. They are meant for the x-mods cars and come as a set of 12 crystals channels 7-12 for like $16. They are actually channels in between 1-6 and work in traxxas and futaba and more.

Traxxas I think uses channels 2,4,5,6 so a number 1 or 3 might also be a good choice.
