best engine upgrade from .21?
have a old savage .21 and was wondering what is the best egine to upgrade to the need no mod work, basically drop it in...i had nothing but problem with this truck so i figure i will try to rebuild this truck instead of it sitting and collecting dust.
is the picco 26 a drop in engine without no mod? i read there a picco 27..is this a good engine will it fit without re dedesigning and moving parts, this will be my first time basically rebuilding a truck, so guess i will be learnign as i go..but i do want nothing but the best products on it, so by the time its completed it will be a sweet truck for bashing..and i bash hard..

Both of those motors will drop right in. There is also a Picco .28, a few guys at my track have them and they rip. I run an STS .28 and it is no slug either. It also will drop right in and one can be had off of e-bay for about $120 shipped.

Man that Savage was made when the HPI nitrostar.25 was an upgrade!....
Plenty of engines "drop right in", but they will ALL require some drivetrain mods on a Savage 21. Unless you have already upgraded, your truck still has the two spider diffs. Before you start whipping that thing around like these engines will allow you to do.... you need diff upgrades, steering upgrades, clutch upgrades, a better pipe and filter, the newer style primerless fuel tank,....

While gleebs is right on the engine subject being hammered to death, I would just like to point out that the RC world is changing rapidly and what would be the best engine today might not be so great tomorrow with the changing technology. Do the research, but it never hurts to ask the question.
I have been wondering the same thing about engines and have got alot of great info off here so far so good luck. My friend has a RB928 that he said has killer power, might wanna look at that one.

Yeah, considering how much he would spend buying the new engine plus all the other parts for hardening, buyning a $400 RTR X is not that much more. If he does not want 2 trucks cluttering his hobby room, he could put his old Savage up for auction and recover some $$ from that.

sounds like it be cheaper for me just to buy a brand new X ,,,the only thing i would lack the machanic skill in learnign to build a truck from scratch...but a new truck would probally have these upgrade already...hmmm
