Default New Savage X Radio

Hi all

I was wondering what a good radio is for the savage x? I want one with/able to do telemetry, recharable battery, 2.4GHz (not nessesary, but would be nice) and 3 channels. I would also like it to be a pistol radio. The only brands I can buy over here in the UK are :

Hitec
Futaba
Spektrum

The budget goes up to £200 (~$400, I think)

Thanks

EDIT : I was looking at the SPEKTRUM DX-3 DSM 3CH PISTOL GRIP RADIO, does anyone have a link to the telemetry addon? Is it very good, and does the receiver and servos fit in the X radio box?

I personally suggest the Futaba 3PK. It has loads of features and overall, it looks cool!

As far as telemetry, just type Spektrum telemetry into your search engine and you will get hundreds of hits! Spektrum telemetry options are widely popular and carried in just about every RC store worldwide.

Spektrum rocks... but there is only one servo in the box worth using on a Savage. The Z590 that it comes with makes a good throttle/brake servo. It has about the same specs as the stock steering servo, but it's of better quality. I don't know of any radios that come with a servo strong enough for steering this truck. The nice steering servo is going to cost more.

The basic DX3 setup and a nice steering servo is going to run you about $350(US prices), without any of the telemetry add-ons.

Do a Google search for "Nomadio Sensor brownbox special" and see if you like that monster. It's the only real step-up from the Spektrum that you're going to get, unless you want more of a traditional hardcore racing radio with an add on Spektrum module... but that can get waaaay up there in price, and the Nomadio is still nicer in my opinion.

Can you use the Spektrum telemetry addon with the stock X radio (TF-3 and reciever, RF-1)?

The TF3 and TF4 HPI radios cannot be upgreaded with Spektrum DSM modules. You have to get a radio that has a detachable TX module (3PK, M8, M11, KO Propo, etx).

If you are looking for a radio that will accept the TX DSM modiule, just go to Spektrum's web site and see which radios have a TX DSM module. If the radio is not listed, it is not capable of being upgraded to DSM.

After getting and using a Spektrum DX3 I will NEVER go back to 25 or 75 MHz!!!!! You just cannot beat 2.4 GHz! Like I tell people if you where going to buy a new computer would you rather have a processor with 75MHz or one with 2.4 GHz?

I am guessing the got all the problems straighten out and if I had the money that is what I would get. But for what I have in my DX3 I am very happy, as it sure is better then that piece of junk Airtronics MX-3S I had before my Spektrum. But either way 2.4GHz is the only way to go.

46u, the thing i like about nomadio's stuff is it's 100% American built by the same guys that are manufacturing military stuff

just like the M1A2, it's ugly as hell, but gets the job done, LOL

And yes, it may be a bit odd that i'm pimping Nomadio for being American while the vast majority of my RC cars are from Japan, as are all the bikes i've owned:P sue me!

Nomadio doesnt have exponetial adjustments to throttle, nor does it have throttle curve, or else I would be holding one right now.

Am I not understanding something correctly? Do I understand that you can use spektrum technology in you jr radio? You just need the modules from spektrum?

Depends on which model JR radio you have. Does it have a module now?

Spektrum has modules for all the major module-based radios, 3PK, JR Z1, etc and so forth.

The following text is copied directly from nomadio.net: Controls: Dual Rate, Endpoints, Exponential
Mixing and Servo Speed Adjust on all channels

Why do you want throttle curve on this radio? Throttle curve is mostly for heli's. Do you use nomadio to fly heli's?

Spektrum has modules for all the major module-based radios, 3PK, JR Z1, etc and so forth.

But doesn't have to be one that excepts a module? If I am correct it will not fit all styles of radios.
