NEW SAVAGE X SS4.6 DIFF SET UP
this set up is used in the new X SS 4.6 diffs - i am not even sure if alloy diff cups like these are even available in the market
does anyone possibly know what these parts(1-4) are and where they go. part numbers would be a big help - if this set up is new and will be released only when the X SS4.6 will come out then plz ignore this post
thanx

I think you may have to wait for the 4.6 X to arrive first...
However there are aluminum diff cups at hand by many manufacture's...
search ebay for them

The 4 square pieces go on the end of the spider gear shafts against the diff cups. I would think they will only work with the X SS cups.

this pic does what i believe show them between the spider gear shaft and the diff cups - i m liking what hpi has done with the diff cups [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] - cant wait to test em out

#1-- Shims for the spider gears
#2-- Shims for the side gears
#3-- Looks like they might be shims for the bearings...
#4-- Steel seats for the cross pins
Steel seats(guides) inside of a plastic cup would have been an upgrade, but to put them inside of aluminum cups is a serious effort on their part to increase longevity. The diffs are the main thing holding these trucks back and I'm excited over these changes.

sorry, not trying to jack the thread, just curious.

strange thing is that i dropped a working diff out of my other X and the problem persisted
i dont want to stress my lhs anymore so i ve given it a rest - the truck runs fine - havent taken it out much - to be honest, i dont even want to talk about it - it pisses me off
anyway - i appreciate ur concern

RE: NEW SAVAGE X SS4.6 DIFF SET UP
yes it does look very similiar to the cen genesis diff - i thought hpi came out with an original design - if cen uses it, i presume its a heavy duty setup to suppost that .46 engine - does anyone know of any genesis diff issues?

RE: NEW SAVAGE X SS4.6 DIFF SET UP
Why can't they just make a reasonably-priced diff-set up that you can just whack in there and forget about?? Maybe that's a dumb question.. But is this going to be a new option - or do you ALWAYS have to assemble, shim, etc.. yourself??
They DO have this kind of set-up here in Germany.. It's called the Nitro Diff-mod from some shop.. Everybody says they're great - and they better be - they cost €120 - per diff!!... I think they use Kyosho housings.. - as well as those little square-looking bits that slide down between the housing and the diff-pin(or whatever it is... I'm WAY clueless here..)
http://www.nitro-mods-shop.com/Nitro...s-c-60_62.html
If I start having trouble with my new SS, I may just go that route - unless this HPI unit will be sold as an upgrade - AND doesn't cost a ton.. Anybody have even a guess what these new X SS diffs will cost??

1 goes behind the spider gears
2 goes behind the large bevel gears
3 is used to shim the entire diff side to side to adjust pinion/ring gear mesh
4 has already been cleared up
BTW-these gears appear to be identical to the Hot Bodies hardened diff gears
