Default Savage x servo upgrade

Hi!

I planning to buy a new steering servo and put original steering servo for the brakes and trothle.

I thinking about Futba s3305 for the steering

Is it strong enough for steering ??

Any comments

I have that servo on my basher for the steering and so far im happy with it. It was a little on the expensive side (70$ can + tax) but worth it IMO.

can you feel a big difference? How the steering changed? Is it faster or more accurate or just stronger or what?

Thank you from comments[8D]

just about any metal gear servo with at least 100 oz of torque will be good.
key words here, metal gear!! from there it depends on what you are doing with it.
racing, you'd want one that is fast as well as strong.
bashing, just the strength is what is key.
Ask your LHS and they will guide you in the right direction.

You can definitely feel the difference between a servo that produces 120oz-in and one that produces 200+oz-in. With a stronger servo, the steering responce will be only limited as to how fast your serevo can turn. A weaker servo has to struggle to turn the big wheels and this adds slightly to the delay from command to actual execution.

I went from a Hitec HS5645 to a 5995TG and the steering characteristics of my Savage changed dramatically. Granted, the 5645 makes about 154oz-in @ .23sec for a 60degree arc(I cannot remember the exact specs) and the 5995TG makes 333oz-in @ .16sec (I think at also 60degree arc, the thing has an operating radius of 180 degrees), but the feel of the wheels turning crisply and on command has definitely improved my bashing experience.

I know the HS5995TG is a robotics servo, but it works great for Savage applications as well. The reason why I got it is because I am currently collecting parts to convert my Savage into a 4wheel steering platform. I originally wanted it because it can produce 416oz-in of torque; this translates into 208oz-in per steering assembly. Unfortunately, I would have to risk cooking my receiver and other servos by pushing 7.2V through the electronics. I'll just have to live with 166.5oz-in per steering assembly.

hey!

[:-] How about batteries?? I went to buy futaba servo s3305 but it was writen that it is only for NiCd batteries?? and I got confused

I have a original Savage battery back for 4 x AA batteries and I have been using Rechargeable 2500mAh batteries
(AA/HR6/DC1500 NiMH/1,2V2500 mAh)

So can I use that servo with those batteries or shoud I uppgrade them also for 5 cell NiCd battery back forexample:

the 3305 is nowhere near strong enough to pull a Savage's wheels around IMO. Not that my 94162 is any better...
