Default Story: A Day at My Track ...

Ok, so today was a great day for me. I decided to put my recently rebuilt TMaxx in the races at my local track today, against a bunch of Revos. In the first race, I pulled a 1st place finish by 1/2 lap, 2nd race, I started out a lap down due to "technical difficulties", but still ended in 2nd position, and again pulled 1st place by 1/2 lap in the 3rd race! This was not what I had imagined when I put the Maxx on the track. My Maxx was running faster, turning better, and all around just working better than any of the Revos I was up against! My truck was the talk of the track this day, and it was very exciting. Many people were asking me about the truck, and how I'd gotten it to run so well.

So, to all of us (including me) who've been talking about which is better, the Revo or the TMaxx, and while I still believe that the Revo is an overall better racer out of the box, I must have the "Herby" TMaxx of the bunch!

Maybe it was superior driving skills? Someone on a track with excellent skills driving a genesis could win against a driver with no idea and a revo. Congratulations.

Racing involves putting your truck on the line, not to mention the hours that it takes to get every thing ready, im not to convinced you guys are really raceing, or more ales crusing around on a track with your buddies. But when we race, it is flat out 15 laps of hell on every thing on the truck. Iv seen new peaple come ot racing, and total they'r truck, or reck it and cause lots of damage. Every one allways runs painted bodies and it seams like every race some one looses a body, take it from me, check out the body from my mt the first time i raced it.

I had ot fix it with almost a 100 zip-ties

Yes, that's the general idea, but when I drive my Revo, which is set up about the same as other Revos there, I usually end up in 2nd or 3rd position, not way out front.

My Maxx is a .15 Pro model. The hop-ups are: FOC, high torque steering servo, bow-ties, .18 CVR, Big Bores. The suspension is the original, non-wide Maxx suspension. The shocks have 30wt. I used one each of the stock TMaxx springs, and softer Big Bore springs on each wheel. Camber is -2 degrees all around, Toe is 1 degree out on front, 0 on the rear.

If you attempt to use this setup, be careful. My truck gets real squirrely during fast acceleration, but I'm trying to work that out. It also bites real hard into the turns, and has a lot of body roll.
I've been told by others who've given it a drive that it's a "H-E-double hockey sticks" of a lot of fun, because it takes so much precision to keep it in check.

You mean thicker oil, or springs? I tried Trinity blue springs, one on each wheel, and it wanted to ride too tall.

i usually chainge the oils nad put stifer springs on, i run 30 pound springs in the rear and 20 in the front, right now i got 60 wt all around.

And as for sittign to tall, thats why you get a revo, so you can set how high or low with out messing with the shocsk for that reason. Cause you can adjust hte preload, rockers, and slots that your tie rod sets in to get a better set up, wich is why revo's have such an advantage. But it is nice to hear that you were showing the revo guys at your track how to drive.

No, this is club-sanctioned racing. Not tooling around with the buds. When I say "racing", I mean racing, putting the trucks to the test, etc. If I say "practicing", that means I'm out testing and tuning the truck for the next race. If I say "goofing off", then I'm goofing off with the friends, but that rarely ever happens, unless they happen to be at the track at the same time.

We have seasoned racers, which I am one of, along with some newcomers to keep the club fresh. The better of us are hitting 8 laps on average with our MTs, as our track is very technical with tight u-turns, s-curves, etc. to keep us on our toes. Most tracks I see videos look like they have lanes that are 20 feet wide. Our track is 9 feet wide, so there's not a whole lot of room for error.

As you'll read above, I do have a Revo, and I agree that they are better suited for racing, and that certain aspects of them are easier to work on, i.e. spring/shock adjustments.

The Trinity XX-Heavy springs for the TMaxx are 8.5lbs. They make my truck stand at attention, and hardly allow for suspension travel due to the stiffness. How did you put 30lb springs on and still get any response? I'm not saying you're wrong or anything, I just find your numbers interesting.

I think maybe because the car is slower, it was easier to wheel around the track, and you were more consistent

Negative on that, Mayhem ... My consistency around the track is about 1.5 for both trucks. If I straight up tuned my TMaxx engine, it could leave my Revo behind, wishing it could be a TMaxx. But I run my TMaxx a little rich because the I don't need all the power on the tight track.
