Default mx3 questions for electric car

i've got a mx3 radio system from my cen matrix and i'm thinking of running it in my rc18t since i don't like the stock stuff when pushing 50mph. i looked in the manual i have and it mentions that the reciever doesn't have a bec or something and cannot accept >6volts. i'm using 9cells right now and i'm wondering if this will burn up the rx, or does my esc (quark 33amp) limit the voltage going to the rx? i'm really new to electric so i don't understand all the workings of their systems, especially rx/tx stuff.
