Is It worth it to Upgrade???
I just received a used but in perfect condition DF-3 complete setup (no camera).
Is it worth the $250 to upgrade to the DF-5 TI board??
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bernd

RE: Is It worth it to Upgrade???
I started with a DF4 and upgraded my board to a 5ti and it works great. Send it to Mike at Spectrolutions and have him do the upgrade for you. Personally I would also have them wire in 4 new motors at the same time. Drop Mike a note and see what he says.
Good luck.

RE: Is It worth it to Upgrade???
I have never flown the df3 but fly quite a bit indoors without Ti which I think would be the same. The few times I have flown with Ti outdoors (conditions permitting) it was like using cruise control, I could fly nose in without issue and take my time getting oriented. Is the upgrade worth it? I would check with Mike if he is willing to do it with a crashed board I think almost everyone has had to send a board in once(save $50 when you need it). He also throws in a free set of nylon blades (black ones not white breakables). Those two things combined is about $80US.
If you plan on flying really high then Ti makes it possible, without it you lose a sense of pitch really quick and it is very hard to get things back in control when the df is a spot in the sky.

Bernd, thermal intelligence and lithium batteries are the two big upgrades since the DF3. The batteries are a definite must-have. TI is mostly to make flying easier to learn and make far away flying possible.

RE: Is It worth it to Upgrade???
Well, just my two cents worth ...............
I fly DF2's, no Ti, and they are just like a normal RC helicopter. I fly the DFs in a large hall most of the time, but I do fly them outside occassionally.
So can you fly a normal RC helicopter? Do you want the Ti, and if so, assuming
for a particular purpose. Just my impression, but me getting Ti would be like putting an autopilot stabilizer on my normal RC helicopters. Not required for the type of flying I do, or I wouldn't really be flying them. If I was into aeriel photography, distance, or I was new at the game, maybe a worthwhile option, and some other people will give you some good feedback. Ultimately, it may have saved me from a couple of bad crashes where I lost orientation, but that's helis.
This is all said given I had to learn to fly mine without Ti, and I fly other heli's.
The lithium upgrade just meant I had to buy new batteries. I was running older Lithium Ions (as opposed to higher capacity draw LiPos) a few years ago - imported the cells made by Matshu****a in Japan, little hot time bombs, amazing power at the time, had to break it into 3 by five min flights or the temperature circuit would cut in in mid flight, only about 15 charges per pack before the safety circuit would render the cells useless (did that once, and dropped like a brick straight down maybe 8 to 10 meters, landed on the hall wooden floor flat as on its risers, no damage). Love that newer carbon frame.
Bottom line, not really worth flying without Lithiums of some sort.
Gotta love them though. Might not be a full on 3D machine, but still one of my favourite machines.
