Default Foam Aileron/ Control Horn Mounting ??

I have a 1/4 scale Creek Extra and although it seems fine for now (a few flights), I am concerned about the lack of a hard mounting point for the aileron control horn.

It is a foam piece and I'm leary of it wearing an possibly breaking. Is there a way to make a hard point either by cutting away the foam and expoxying (sp?) a block of wood or just use some sheeting?? Right now I am using a Sullivan control horn.

Any suggestions from the pros or non-pros would be appreciated.

You've answered your own question.

The answer is yes on hard points (no problem through 100 inchers). AND the hard point does NOT have to be large. I keep mine to the exact size of the Sullivan large horn set and about 5/16" thick with 15 minute epoxy. Cut out for a level fit then insert with a light epoxy coating (light means less clean up).

When finished you can break the surface, but it wont be the horn mounting point. Seems to have strength beyond any sensible reason.

Thanks Onewasp,

Is the idea to cut out a hole in the foam and replace it with wood? ie all the way through? Or would you just trim a bit of the foam to set in a flat piece?

MHawker ,

He means a flat piece, he said in his post he used 5/16 thick, which is good. My 30% uses this method and works great. Another thing you can do is to use a suitable sized dowel, and then use an adjustable control rod such as Rocket City, Sullivan or Dubro
