confused about storing Ni-CD batteries
Im really confused now, there is 2 websites saying different things on how to store NiCD batteries...here look at this
http://www.quicktechhobby.com/How-To/Batteries.htm says
http://www.toolup.com/CategorySearch.asp?Node=4581
Panasonic FAQ says
so one of them is full of it .....???
i would like to know WHATS THE RIGHT THING TO DO ?
thanks!
http://www.quicktechhobby.com/How-To/Batteries.htm says
Store your batteries when they're not being used in a full charged state. If they are fully charged, they are less likely to acquire a permanent internal shor while sitting around.

Panasonic FAQ says
To get the best use and longest life from your batteries, you should store Ni-MH batteries fully charged and you should store Ni-Cd batteries fully discharged
so one of them is full of it .....???

Good observation there!
Hmm well as far as I know I've always stored my batteries with a slight charge in em.
I believe its better to store Ni-Cd batteries with a charge in em.
IF totally drained.. they will take up to 24 hours to recharge for the first time.
But there are some batteries like Li Ion that can be charged with or without a charge.
Ni-Mh I dont know about these.. but I do like em more than Ni-Cds.. no memory!
REMEMBER TO DISPOSE OF Ni-Cd BETTIES PROPERLY!! Take them to your local SEARS or "Batteries PUS". Do NOT throw them in the trash!

Ni-cads develop a memory....that is why they say to store them in a discharged state...where as the nickle metal hydrides do not develop a memory so it is recommended to store them fully charged.
When you discharge Ni-cads...you do not discharge them to 0 volts as that will kill them. Battery chargers that are made for charging/discharging Ni-cads will be able to cycle them also so they do not build a memory effect.
