Default Need Balsarite?

I was wondering if applying a coat of balsarite to my TF AT-6 before covering it with monocote would help to smooth out the grain and keep it from showing throught the covering.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Default Balsarite

They make a formula specifically for better film adhesion. Do not use it to fill balsa sheeting before sheeting a wing thought. Use the standard formula for those projects. I found out the hard way and my sheeting didnt stick in some areas. Ughhhhh!!! It will also fill the grain, but sand smooth after applying.

Personally, I do not use the cr^%. If you do use it, do not put it all over your model, it will make recovering it a real pain.

Don't use it! If you want a smooth finish for monocote do the following.
Go to home Depo and buy a product called:Bullseye Shellac sealer & finish its in the spray paint dept.
Spray on 1 med coat and let dry
Then sand with 320 till smooth
Then spray on 1 more thin mist coat let dry
Finish with 400
Your surface will look like Glass

you don't stop playing cause ya get old.... Ya get old cause ya quit playing!

I think your right on the all over thing Vince. This stuff is good for refinishing jobs where the film needs a little help sticking to either fuel soaked areas or hard to stick areas like inside curves or fillets. (Balsarite for extra film adhesion formula)

Switching gears slightly...So how about Balsarite to seal the wood before fiberglassing to prevent the resin from soaking into the wood?

Default SEALING FOR RESIN

You can use regular cheap hairspray to seal wood so it doesnt absorb to much resin. We use it when sheeting the wings on our pattern planes to help keep them light. After applying a heavy spray of the hairspray let it dry good and sand lightly.
