I'm not sure if Hobby People bought him out or if they are just the exclusive distributor now. I suspect the latter. Andy Clancy is a pretty nice guy, basically just a model dude like all of us. I think the production and distribution end of it was a bit more than he wanted. I heard that he felt he could come up with even more new and unusual planes if he didn't have to spend so much time cutting, shipping, and dealing with the logistics, books, etc.
I noticed the Hobby People catalog had his Turbo Bee listed now and I saw one in a local hobby shop yesterday. I think we'll be seeing some other Clancy designs coming down the pike soon as well.
I love em, even though I dont fly them anymore. I basically learned to fly with a Lazy Bee. Flew the wings off of it, and two more after that one.

I talked to andy today for about an hour and found out that global hobbies is the new distributor for him, Hobby people is the "tower hobbies" of global.
THIS IS NOT a buy out, but several new things are on the way, like the lazy bee ARF, and the RTF also, Andy had a arf in front of him while i was talking to him and he said he could not have built one any better than this one. I own just about every thing he has ever sold and some he has not, and I can tell you there is not a better all around plane out there. I use mine for every thing from training to full blown 3D.

StaggerBee,
I haven't owned any Bees for a few years, but I have flown the Yard Bee a little and I happen to have a StaggerBee kit in the shelf BEEhind me. LOL
I know the Lazy Bees I had did some neat things, but I dont know anything about the StaggerBee. Do you fly the wingeron version ? I'm wishing I would have bought that one. Maybe I'm wrong. I dunno. What 3D maneuvers can you get your Bees to do ? Any special tips for those of us BEEhind the times ?

Yes Foamguy I do have the wingaron Stagger bee, and it is not tolate for you to have one yourself, just call andy and order the wing kit, it is wild but you have to take your time building it, any slack at all and you will need a bag to pick up your airplane!!!!! At full deflection I am getting about 7 rolls per sec. out of mine. But if you want some thing really wild build the lady bug. on land or water it is by far the wildest thing I have ever seen! And all this from a .061.
As far as the 3d stuff, lets see hovering, waterfalls, escalators, flatspins, slow rolls and 80mph low passes... Here is picture....

My God! What a cool looking airplane!
Looks like a chop-top '49 Mercury with wings.
Is the wingeron modification shown on the plans? Can I fabricate it without the TBA "official" upgrade kit from HobbyPeople?
Are people really putting a 30 four-stroke on this thing?
Wow.

Hi Guys,
Been following the thread for awhile now. I have built and owned several Clancy kits..... I have the Stagger Bee kit, just havent built it yet.... but I do have a friend who just finished one... and chose an LA .25. He basically told me it was a rocket with that engine, which aint the strongest chicken in the coop, as in vertical take up to out of sight. I didnt see it, but since I know him well and trust him...... he says a decent .15 might be a little better choice. I havent looked at the plans in awhile... but it seems like a Saito .30 would shake the beak off of the plane... without major reinforcement. IMHO, probably a bit much torque, power, and vibration.... but the one to ask really is Andy Clancy.... he'd know better than me and I would think for a $2 phone call he'd tell you too.

The wing plans for the wingaron are NOT the same as the regular wing, also there are some laser cut parts that have to be a tight fit when you are moving the whole wing around. I fly my stagger on a LA.15 that I replaced the bushings with needle berings and it has unlimeted vetical!!!!!! Clocked at
85 mph. A friend of mine has a saito 30 on his and it is great ! I am going to order a saito 30 this week!!!!!!!

Follow Up: Wingeron Kits Available
Directly from Hooby People:
I just ordered mine. Get 'em while they're hot.
If you do not have a kit, we now have the full kit with wingeron included. Item No. 222129
If you already have the kit, and just want the wing kit with wingerons, it is Item No. 221815

Hold the phone a minute here!!! Tell me a little more about this, it sounds interesting. I have more faith in the LA engines than most, and this sounds like an easy do.
How about brg source, sizes, front seal or sealed brg? Are these Torrington needle roller brgs you are using?
I'm interested in doing this to some 40 an 46 LAs I have

RE: Clancy aviation
Hate to interupt, but AFAIK, needle bearings are for high stress, load applications. They have way more friction than ball bearings, but more load capacity. Wrong for this application if you consider that a stock .15 will turn a 8x3 prop 17,000 rpm or better. 32 ozs sounds like a lot of weight for a .15 to hover, this roller bearing mod must have really paid off somehow? I'd like to know more about it too.......so would my bearing supplier.
