hey all, i have designed and made a dual walled pipe for my ziroli panther with p-80 power. it came out great but very heavy. what is the gauge of ss that you all have been using. god i wish i could keep this pipe, but i find it will need like 5 lbs of lead up front to ballast it for cg. thanks, nick

Default Pipe for Panther!

Nick,

I built a Ziroli Panther a couple of years ago, first it was a ducted fan, then I converted it to a turbine with a P80. I had to add 1 1/2 lbs of nose weight with a fan engine. After I converted to a turbine it needed a little more wieght in the nose, you can't have it tail heavy!

Tad at Golden West made my exhaust pipe for me, he does a nice job, if he is busy call Tam at Tam Jets he does very good work as well. If you need info on the material they use, I'm sure they can fill you in.

Good luck,
Ken.........

Nick The pipes we make for our customers are made out of .007 " stainless for the inner pipe and .005 " for the outer pipe. Have made both out of .007 " , but when customer needs it lighter this works fine most pipes in the 24" range the pipes weigh about 1 lb. This is with a stainless bell mouth on the inner pipe. Outer aluminum will loose only about 2 ounces because it needs to heavier wall about .018"

Don B Miniature Turbine Sales & Service

added a picture of the pipe we made for the Euro Sport this pipe gave us about 4 lbs. of static thrust increase over the pipe that came with the kit . it weighs just u nder 1 lb.

E mail me for prices [email protected]

Default Stainless & Bellmouth

McMaster Carr (www.mcmaster.com) has stainless shim stock in 12" widths in the thickness ranges mentioned .005-.008 in lengths of 50" or 100" for decent prices.

What are folks using for bellmouths???

hey don, how much do your pipes go for? just wondering. my measurements are as follows, 85mm inner at turbine, 90mm outer at turbine, 80 inner at tail, 85mm outer at tail. Gosh the length i cant recall but i would say its right about 20 inches. let me know. i know how well tams pipes are, but wow, i cant imagine shelling out 170 for it. i am active duty air force and in maintenance, i have the guys out here at the sheet metal shop that will roll and weld it for free, well maybe a case of beer. thats how i got this pipe made, i just told them the measurements. thanks guys

For the Isobars, we've been making them out of .008 stainless from McMaster Carr, inner pipe. I tried .005 once, but it got wrinkly too easy, but that was back in my RAM days. On this latest Isobar, I used a thin aluminum duct/flashing from True Value hardware that works great as an outer pipe. Not sure how thick, but comparable to the stainless.

I been using .006 inner pipe and .003 pipe for lighter weight.
The technique to kept pipe from colaps it how you construt the pipe. Not by the thickness material. That why customer pay for my works.
Here my latest dual wall helicpoter exhaust pipe.

Tam

Hey Mark thanks for the first flight of the Isobar. Even though we have only two flights the entire events. Weather sucks... My big f16c wings got wet so bad me and Phil Nuza decided not make the maiden flight. Hope next event this bird will fly.

Nick,
Thanks. It took many years in metal work to master it.
I got 10 years experience auto body work before changing career.

I can vouch for Tam's work. I just received a bifurcated pipe for my FC Eurosport and it's a work of art. Too bad it gets buried in a fuselage!
