Dubro pinned nylon hinges
Just acquired a plane and I want to recover it. Dubro nyon pinned hinges are used for the ailerons and tail feathers. How do I remove them ? There is no space between the surfaces where I can nip the pins with a cutter.

Hi Limbodancer,
I bet there's a story behind that name. You will get lots of advice as to different methods. I simply cut them level with the surfact and replace with Robart hinge points adjacent to the original. Simple, quick and easy.
Cheers,
Colin

The pin has a 90 degree bend and the short end of the pin is forced into the slot of either the surface or the trailing edge of the wing or stab. With a hobby knife make a slot in the wood for the pin to slide sidways and then pin can be removed. Once all pins are out the surace is removed.. Then the surface can be reinstalled using one long wire that goes through all the hinges. Lots of effort but can be done, easier often to cut off the hinges and start over.

If the surfaces are so well hinged I'd cover without removing the hinges. That's how I cover all my planes - after the hinges are well installed.
