free cowl mounts
I needed some brackets for mounting a cowl on my Kavalier. I tried using blocks epoxied to the firewall, but they either broke or split so I gave up on them.
After a recover job I wanted to put a new cowl on, but after looking in vain for some Goldberg 90 degree brackets I have around here somewhere, I spotted a handful of control horns from various projects and crashes.
I took one that had the horn coming out of the center (not offset) and cut it down. Screwed it to the firewall, mounted the cowl and drilled through both at once. A single sheet metal screw holds the cowl and two screws holds the bracket to the firewall.
On the ones with the control horn in the middle of the foot, I cut off one side and sanded it level. Then used dykes to trim it to fit.
