TBM Von Extra 260
Anyone own one of these?? Looks like a really nice plane and the price is very reasonable too!
Am interested in this plane with the DA 100.

I saw the prototype fly at our Imac contest last summer. The plane and Gene flew well. The price has been creeping up though. But, they seem to keep adding more work to the ARC so there is less building for the modeler. I seriously considered buying the plane, but I decided instead on the H9 Cap, which also flies very well and comes in at a similar weight and wing area. The H9 is quite a bit less money too, and it's an ARF. One nice feature about the TB Extra is that it is now setup for a tuned pipe. So if a quiet pipe is important to you, I would lean toward the TBM.

I don't own one, but one of the guys I fly with just finished this plane. He is powering the plane with a DA 100, and seems to work great. The plane is extremely light (23 lbs for a 40%)! Construction is first class and seems to be well laid out. The plane flies great. Normal flight is very stable, but will perform 3D with no problem. Slow flight is predictable (wants to stall to the left). Landings are easy as it slows down nicely.
My only two complaints are that the gear are too narrow, and I'm not real crazy about the looks of the Extra 260 (prefer the 300).

TB 260 vs RC 330L
My brother and I have both airplanes. The TB 260 is 22.75 lb and the RC 330 is 25lb. Both have DA 100s. The 260 is the better overall plane. It 3D's much better than the 330. They are pretty much even in the elevator/harrier. The 260 comes down slower, but they are both stable. The 260 is better at everything else. Keep in mind the differances are small and both are very good for 3D work. We have a Aeroworks 37% 300L, aeroworks 40% edge, and a Carden 40% G300, the 260 is the better 3D plane.
They are both good precision planes. But the 260 is better because of one thing. The 260 snaps better than any plane I've flown. It stops snapping as soon as you let off the controls. I do not know if it's the airfoil or very light wings or both, but it does snap well, better than the 40% planes. The 260 paces a little faster than the 40% planes, but only a little faster.
To sum it up, we fly the 260 more than any of the other planes. We like it well enough to have gotten on the list for the 40% 260 when it comes out

Thanks a lot for the input!! I guess I know what my next plane is!!
The vertical must be unreal! What throttle setting does it hover at?
I just wish it had the looks of the RC 330...
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
I setup the throttle curve so it hovers a few clicks below 1/2 on the stick. It's something less than 1/3 of the servo throw.
The 40% prototype is supposed to, maybe, hopefully, be ready for the Toledo show.
We got the one servo standard length aileron wing. Using one Hitec 5945 and 45% of throw, we're getting a lot of blowback. I would get the 2 servo full length aileron wing if I was doing it over.

Unfortunately a friend of mine lost his almost brand new 40% Carden Cap and DA 150 cause his new Hitec digitals (don't know the number) locked up the aileron on take off. Nothing was really salvageable. The DA was in pieces..
