Rookie II install question?
Hey Guys,
I am finishing up my Rookie II and had a question about where I have the receiver mounted. I made a custom tray and mounted the receiver on the tray. The antenna wire goes up and back and is near some of the fuel lines. I have heard about static charges building up in the fuel lines and I am concerned about the antenna placement. Here is a pic of the install. I am open to comments and suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Maddogg

RE: Rookie II install question?
Maddogg,
Very clean setup. My recomendation would be to move the reciever more toward the front of your tray. Perhaps to the side of the steering servo. It is always suggested to move reciever as far away from the fuel pump as possible to prevent interferance.

RE: Rookie II install question?
Maddog - I agree with docgboy. I am on my third Rookie and have great success with all by making sure the receiver, servo wiring and antenna are routed away from the turbine ECU and wiring. I suggest that you move your receiver as far forward as you can and possibly consider using a whip antenna such as a revolution or the full wave whips that the guys on the west coast are using. The best place for a revolution is up in the nose. I don't have anything else up there and it is a very safe location. I urge you to do a long distance running range check at least no matter if you make changes or not. I have seen several jets go in due to no or little seperation between turbine and servo wiring. It doesn't take a lot to make a difference.
By the way, make the canards active, but add some expo to them. The Rookie is a load of fun to fly, especially slow and high alpha flight.

RE: Rookie II install question?
Hey Guys,
Thanks for all the advice. I am using a Revolution whip antenna with a JR 955S receiver. The problem I am having is that the previous owner of the Jet mounted the antenna with a rubber grommet on top of the fuse just behind the canopy. I am using 36 inch extensions for the elevons and rudders and they are just long enough to reach where they are now. If I did move the receiver forward, would it be OK to add 6 inch extensions to the elevons and rudders? How would I mount the Revolution antenna on the side of the airframe. If I mounted it next to the steering servo toward the front of the tray, I don't think the antenna would be long enough to make it up to the nose.
Thanks for the help,
Maddogg

P.S. Felker14 keep your opinions to yourself too. Otherwise, I will have to add your name to the no fly list as well!!!!! At least my jet is finished, you slacker!!!!!

RE: Rookie II install question?
Hey Guys,
I did a range check tonight at the field with the receiver mounted the way it is in the pictures at the beginning of the thread. I got to 100 paces with the antenna removed on the 10X and it never went to failsafe. I tried different throttle settings as well. Just to make sure the failsafe was set I switched the transmitter off and the turbine shut down like it is supposed to. Fly it or not?

The black antenna is for my seagull pro telemetry, I have a 1Watt transmitter on board to give me speed, altitude, gps, voltage, etc.
I flew on Staurday and my top speed was 326Km/h into a 20km/h head wind.
