Outdoor Flight "Creature Curiousity"
Ok, it happened again last night, but this time I had witnesses. Has anyone ever been buzzed by a large insect (or small bird) when flying outdoors? It seems to fly around the heli to check it out and then fly off..........I thought I was just seeing things at first!

I have actually had that happen before too!!! I was flying one day and hovering it about 50 feet in the air when small bird tried to attack it. Needless to say, the helicopter won and I only suffered broken landing gear when I freaked out and let it fall out of the sky after that. I think the smaller sized helicopters don't really make enough noise to ward off any creatures that may be curious as to what this GIANT UFO bug is. So, flyers beware with CX's and 300 sized Helis like the Blade CP. If they get curious enough, they may just go in for a closer look...

Have had several bumble bees move in for a look, but the Japanese hornets will attack. From below they get pushed around a bit but from above the blades do a nifty job of eliminating an agressive pest. If you are flying the pro you have to make sure you don't get too focused on the bug/bird or you might lose control. I have had taken too long of a look only to realize the pro was headed for trouble.

Lately I have had Dragonflys playing with my CP and my .30 Shuttle Z. I never hit one, but they are fun to watch. My uncle has had a hawk attack his .46 Telemaster and the hawk won. It ripped the wing in half at the inboard rib when it was at about 1500' AGL (almost out of sight).

The creatures that bug me the most lately are skeeters. They have caused many a forced landing while I can feel/ watch them sucking blood but cant take my hands off of the TX. They got me twice tonight alone, and I only flew about 800 MAH out of my CPP.

I've had a dragon fly "attempt" to attack my CP Pro only to have it's head chopped off. I was laughing so much I could barely get the thing down safely. Wish I took pictures of the splatter on the bottom of one of the blades. By the way, I was flying with plastic semi's so the dragon fly had no chance.
Last night the mosquitos were so bad I had to quit and go inside. Every time I lifted off I felt one on my arms or neck!

I was flying my CX2 in the back yard when a Blue Jay came in to check out the heli. I powered it down next to the bird feeder. The Jay followed it and landed next to it squacking at it the whole time. So I powered the heli back up to try to get closer to the bird, and ended up striking the bird with the rotors. After a small puff of feathers, the bird took off screaming it's head off! It came back about an hour later, but when it saw the CX2 it took off like a bat out of hell. It still won't come back in the yard if it sees the Heli. It just sits on the powerline and watches.

Lol I was flying once, these bugs are smart in the neighborhood. The wasps were going after me AND my heli. I broke the head, the landing skids, flybar, burned a 4 in 1, broke all blades, bent the flybar, killed the canopy, cracked the main frame, broke the gears, broke the styro foam tail boom thing. also broke a lot of other parts. total cost of about 140 lol. almost the price of the heli. What brand is a good carbon boom?

RE: Outdoor Flight "Creature Curiousity"
About a year ago, I was flying in the back yard and my daughter had put her pitbull in the kennel (6foot hight) while she cleaned her room (dog lives in her room mostly). Anyhow, I was cruising the back yard with my BL frankenblade and the dog was having a fit, getting plenty of excercise.
I was flying low back up the yard towards me and to the left when I heard the chain links on the kennel ring and the barking stop. I saw a flash in the corner of my eye and instinctively punched in collective. The heli got to 5 feet but....the dog snatched the heli in mid air, landed and pinned it to the ground in one move....head thrashing from side to side. I set the TX down on the ground and pulled the dog off and while wrestling it, the dog stepped on the front of the TX and scratched the LED screen.
You have no idea how close that dog came to being fed a sponge with bacon grease on it. (dogs don't pass sponges and....well...it would have been a fitting way for it to go). I hate that dog any ways. I have three other "nice" dogs that respect my heli's (and two are bird dogs). Something about that pit just rubs me wrong.

A frankenblade is a microheli that started its life as a Blade CP back when they first hit the market. It now has very little Eflite parts on it. BL means brushless....Himax 2015 3600 for the main, Fiegao 12X30 4100kv on the tail. Two CC10's driving them with a GY240 heading hold gyro. Boom is solid CF shortened 1.5 inches from stock. The tail throws a 4530 GWS addaptor mounted prop. the main blades are MS carbons. The frame and skids are early model super landing gear. Its got over 300 hours on the main motor now....still strong.
I think that's what is called a frankenstien heli. It was back together in a few hours but I no longer fly with the dogs outside.
