Default FunFly servos

Why does everyone expect awsome 3D performance from a 10.00 servo?

I am amazed at how many people refuse to believe that good quality fast and precise sevos are almost mandatory for 3D and hovering! I know standard servos can be used but how much easier it is to stay on top of a TR with speedy servos!
I have 8411's on my bigger planes but for 40 size i have found some great Cirrus cs65 coreless servos with 121 oz torque (6v) and .13>60 speed i have these on almost a dozen 40 and 60 size planes for several years and they are awsome. Fast and excellent centering and about 47.00 each I am putting together a Knife Arf right now and i ordered JR DS3421 mini digital servos will save almost an oz each and 1/4 pound should go a long way to make a possible overweight ARF fly good.

Default Here! - Here!

I can't agree with you more. I have gotten allot of chritisism about using a dbl BB coreless servos in my 40-size Fun-Flys. Yet they are more expensive, though you don't have to throw them out after a crash! Rebuild them and put them in another Fun-Fly! Or whatever. I run the MPI 870s, 110 oz-in. torque, at 0.1 sec/60 deg. on 4.8V at $43.00 each. Its hard to beat them. I've had better luck with the old versions of this servo over the new ones (servo housing screws go in from the top of the servo). You can learn to do your 3D manuvers with std. servos, but you'll have to practice longer to get there (IMHO).

Default servos

Ya Buddy, you got it right for sure ! We do use some standards on our normal and beater planes, but we use a lot of JR 4735's 's and 4731's and Hitec 605BB's in our hotter and 3D type planes where we want a lot of torque and speed. Thanks for the tip on the CS-65's will have to check em out soon. Take care and keep having FUN !! Rod & Chris in PA.

Kevin do you think the plastic gear or metal gear are best?

Do those mpi 870 seem loud/noisy I think ohters have said that but they are good.

I'm thinking of swapping out cheapo's and putting them ( 870's in my planes. For better centering and the torque.

Best place to get MPI's?

Thank's Dennis

Default MPIs

Yeah - Dennis they are noisy, but considering their performance, I don't care. I have had some problems with the new ones, though my old ones keep working just fine. I personally prefer the plastic gear. The high rpm of a fun fly engines causes the metal gears to wear quickly, thereby creating slop in the gear train. The nylon absorbs the vibrations without damage to the gear train. This is my opinion based on my personal experience. You will find others here on RCU that will disagree with me on this issue. I say, whatever works for you is the best.
Where to get the best price? I've convinced my LHS to carry them for me and others in this area. I know Paul Swany picked up a bunch of them at Perry from some outfit that had the old style MPIs. You might want to PM Paul to see if he remembered the name of the outfit that had them.
Take Care & Happy Flying!

Default FunFly servos

Hello

I put 4 DS 811's in my Rippy Pro 3D and they work pretty well for me. I do wish I had a a little more torque but I am satisfied and these servos have awsome centering. One of the pros at my field really likes the JR 4735 servos for his super fast adn power full Dust and he also has DS9411's in most of his unlimited fun flys.

I do agree, good servos definitally make a world of difference.

I beleive what you fellows are saying about high dollar servos is correct. However, In my case it is an issue of economics. If I had to put those servos on my planes,,,,,,,,,well, I just wouldn't have them. Then I wouldn't be flying at all. So I may not fly as smooth as you, I may not hover as long, or as straight, hell I can't even do some of the things you do. BUT, in the mean time, I am haveing a ball with my 425BBs.
Hope this helps :-)
