Can you see the Blue Angel scheme?
I would like to hear from the guys flying the f-18's with the Blue Angels paint scheme. I'm considering painting the large Yellow F-18 and wanted to see how you guys felt about the visual. Do you see the yellow strip down the center? Can you see the wingtips? How about the U.S. NAVY on the bottom. What is the difference on sunny days/ cloudy days. Any info would be great.
Thanks, Billy

I hear ya on that. You know, It's actually a difficult paint scheme because it's so easy to make the model look like a toy. The key is the scale detail. I know the Blue Angels scheme is played out, but if done right, it can be a awesome looking model. I just got off the phone with Dave Presta. He said when he flew the Tam F-18 BA, he could definatley see the yellow in the wingtips, verticals and the strip on top. He said it was never an issue. I'm pretty confident with the planes size and profile that the scheme will be fine, but like with all my projects, I like to get the opinions over other pilots.

RE: Can you see the Blue Angel scheme?
Some guys I know got the CARF Flash in the Blue Angles scheme and they complained that it was very hard to see. Mine with the "Mig" scheme that is white/red on top and white/blue on the bottom is very easy to see.
I would think that on a big model like the Yellow F-18, it wouldn't be nearly as much as an issue, but I've decided that I won't have a small/fast model with the Blue's scheme or a modern low-vis scheme...

I have no problems seeing the markings on smaller BA colored planes and my Yellow a/c F-18 single I had. If the markings are the correct size they show up very well!!!

In sunny days the yellow parts really show up and help the orientation a bit. In cloudy ones the airplanes turns into a beautiful black spot... anyway, this paint scheme is a lot better than the grey ones, so don´t let the airplane get too far until you get used to it and you shouldn´t have any problems.
The BA F-18 is in my opinion the nicest looking r/c jet with a striking presence.... specially if fitted with a smoke system.

I have a SM F-18 in Blue Angels colours. How well you can see it depends on the lighting. I agree with Enrique, on bright sunny days it is no problem, the orientation is clear enough. However, on grey cloudy days it is quite difficult to see the orientation of the model. The yellow shows up well on the spine, but at any distance the yellow wing tips hardly show up at all, so keep it close. Sadly, living in England we have lots of these days[&o], so I am planning to change the scheme to one of the more colourful Canadian schemes.
In the meantime I am just finishing my SM F18E Superhornet, and this will be lit up like a Christmas tree[8D].
Regards,
John

Billy,
Its got nothing to do with the paint scheme! Ask Douky,... it's all about the sunglasses! He has several pair, each different for the type of sky he was flying that bitty A-4 in.....his favorite...."THE RED BULL" (not shown below). [X(][:@]

I have always loved the BA color scheme but have a difficult time seeing it. I flew Nicks F18 once and was very uncomfortable with orentation. I tried the Blue and Yellow on a DV8R and never liked that either. I would try something similar in size (and cheaper) and cover it Blue and Yellow similar to the BA scheme and see if you like it. Cermark has the BA F18 for around $400? as an ARF. Everyones eyes are different.
