CA irritates my throat so badly that I have to restrict its usage to something I can do outside and then only in a strong wind. Has anyone found a mask that provides protection against the fumes?

You can get several of them at a hardware store for less than $10. If could also ventilate the area and pull your T-Shirt over your nose - hahaha - I have done that a few times.

I never tried a dust filter type mask for CA, but it seems to me the fumes would pass through the paper type mask. When I need to do a lot of CA'ing and can't take the project outdoors, I use the dual cartridge charcoal filter type painter's mask from the hardware store. The charcoal absorbs the fumes, and that has gotten me through many a session. You also need to keep your eyes clear of the fumes when they float up.

I used CA for a few years off & on before I became sensitized, but when it hit me it caused major congestion for days. No problems after using the charcoal mask.

a friend of mine is allergic to ca and he claims that the oderless ca doesn't bother him at all, just a thought good luck

I'm in the same boat on allergic reaction. Once CA sensitized me the slightest contact will cause asthma type reactions. IMHO any substance that toxic should be avoided. Other than hinging there's really no gluing that requires CA and even the hinges can be glued quite well without using CA.

I especially like the way Titebond III can be sanded smooth (unlike the hard surface CA leaves).

Don41, I restrict the use of CA to the absolute minimum. If something doesn't change, it's gone. I'll go back to five minute epoxy. Dan.

I loved its almost instant bonding when building wings. You could square up a rib, tack weld it and move on. Titebond is a lot slower but then again there's really no hurry and Titebond APPEARS to be safe.

I'm getting ready to do some compound curve forming on my Elder and I wish I could use CA but it isn't going to happen (:-).

I'm a young guy and not sensitive to CA, but always wear one of the $30 to $35.00 masks that Home Depot sells for paint fumes. I wear it a lot when I work with CA, particularly when I'm grinding CA areas with a dremel.

The smell is so putrid, but with the mask, I don't smell anything, I believe it to be 100% protection. And I know I'm being protected because sometimes my eyes tear up from the fumes that I can't smell, and I have to stop for a minute or two.

Gluing up a sticks & ribs wing is one of those tasks where CA has no substitute. If you want to spring for the extra cost of the odorless, that's one solution. Taking your workboard outside can be another, or the painter's mask. If you're bending over your wing, closed-in safety goggles will protect your eyes from the raw fumes. After they've dissipated into the air, they're not a problem, but if the fumes come straight up into your eyes, the irritation is a definite problem.

I have a senativity to CA as well but I find the foam safe stuff not be aproblem. The Foam safe uses a different solvent base that is what triggers the reaction in the other type.

I am right-handed and have placed a small fan to the right of the work area. When using CA I turn on the fan, its seems to blow the fumes away from my face.

Seems to work pretty well give it a try.

I have been using Super Gold from Bob Smith Industries my local hobby shop carries it and the excellerant he makes works on all his CA products if you need a flash setup and his debonder also works on both types. I find Foam safe to be slightly slower in setting up. The White top is the thin stuff and the black top is the medium thickness.

Don, I like the speed of the CA but I do need my throat more. I'll search for some protection or switch to a safer CA. Dan.

Iam also sensitive to regular CA. The odorless/foam safe CA is a good alternative, but does take significantly longer to set up and has a much shorter shelf-life (I keep unopened bottles in the freezer; they last a long time there). But there are times when regular CA is the very best answer and a fan sometimes works, but ... I have tried a couple of masks, but even the simplest ones interfere with my glasses. Has anyone afflicted with poor eyesight found a compatible, reasonably-priced mask?

It did take care of the fumes, but it's a very uncomfortable way to work. Then I basically quit using CA. I find that building with yellow wood glue is more enjoyable.

i was glueing tires for my truggy and was looking closly at the bead and the tire sliped glued my eye shut and then the tire got glued to my face then every one at the hostpital looked and lafed that day sucked
