T-MAXX 3.3 WONT START
Ok, I have a 11/2 gallon old T-Maxx 3.3 that just died while running it and I cannot seem to get it started. Here is what I've tried so far:
Changed glow plug (a couple times), removed glow plug and motored engine to un-flood it due to continued start attempts. When using the Ez-start, the glow light is lite and I have tried a glow igniter also. It is getting fuel. The glow plug is working. Have cleaned air filter, removed air filter, etc. Replaced all fuel lines. Pressure checked the fuel tank, no leaks. Exhaust vent is clear. Returned both needle settings to factory, 4 turns main, flush on the low Removed the engine and cleaned and inspected it, everything looks fine inside, removed the head, it looks good inside. Re-assembled it, still wont start. It turns over fine, after awhile spits fuel and actually gets hot from trying to start it. But it does not start.
Any Ideas??? I'm going to bed before I throw the thing.

Man thats a bummer! I can only think of a couple possibilities. 1 possible air leak at carb base. 2 what is the temp outside? when its really cold I have to heat mine with a hair dryer or a heat gun otherwise it does same thing. Good luck

Take your glow plug out and make sure it's lighting up like it's supposed to. Just connect the blue wire to it and hold the plug against the motor while pushing the ez start button. your plug might be glowing, but not getting hot enough.

Yes, the Picco is a much better motor. But first, go thru the learning curve and get comfortable with tuning your 3.3 before going with an aftermarket motor.
Let's look at your problem again and see what we can do to get it fired up. 4 things are necessary to get a nitro engine fired. Heat, fuel, air and compression.
Glow plug works, that's the heat. Got fuel going to your carb? Needles set to factory break-in specs? Got good compression? Now, take your air filter off and make sure your slide is open 1mm or so. Got a freshly charged battery in your EZStart and a glow starter? Disconnect the blue wire from the glow plug and use the glow ignitor. Follow these steps:
1. Put your finger over the exhaust stinger and crank the motor over with the EZStart until you see fuel going thru the line into the carb.
2. Once you have fuel going to the carb, connect the glow ignitor to the glowplug.
3. Blip the EZStart button for a second at a time, watching for air bubbles in the fuel line to the carb. If motor acts like it wants to start, pull the throttle linkage so the carb opens.
4. If motor still doesn't fire, adjust the LSN (in the middle of the carb slide arm) counterclockwise slowly while cranking. Once it fires over, Tighten the LSN 1/12 of a turn clockwise (leaner). You should now be in the ballpark.
Some more advice: Don't get pissed off at your truck- it's a simple machine, just back off and leave it alone till you calm down and try again. THIS HOBBY IS ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN!

Thanks for the tips.
I found the problem though, the one way bearing on the backplate was seezed! I made a trip to the LHS and they had one, I put it on and I'M BACK IN BUSINESS! When I was trying to start it, it was dragging the EZ-Start along and would not run. At least I now have a very clean engine, it has good compression and everything looks good inside. It started right up and once I got it tuned, it runs great now, so I think I'll stick with this one til it dies. I'm pretty good at tuning, I'm a long time airplane and heli flier, but I just started running the cars. The car engines do seem a little more finiky to tune though, I use my temp gauge and my ear and it seems to work good. This one had me going though, I didnt even know there was a one way in there until I took it apart.

glad you got it running right....tuning principals are the same for all glow powered engines......slightly rich is the way to go..lots of smoke..

the TRX engines are more finiky to tune then other models. they picco .26 is a good engine...but the Rb523 is even better. comes with an aluminum carb so it really holds a tune and is easy to tune. im glad you got your truck running..now go have some fun.

Interesting note, on the instruction sheet that came with the new one way bearing it said that it should disassembled and lubed every half a gallon!

RE: T-MAXX 3.3 WONT START
I just installed a brand spanking new 3.3 with pull starter into my S-Maxx. Holy hell, that thing was a PITA to start!!!!
The EZ start would have made it, well easier. But I wanted to reduce excess weight hence the pull starter.
I need to install my new clutch bell and spur though. I'm topping out way too fast!!

I feel your pain with the pullstart. I went to a Tiger Drive- weighs a little less than the pullstart even- and never looked back. Only pain is my LST uses a different hex shaft, so I gotta keep track of two.

If your OWB does that again squirt some WD-40 into it and it will work like a charm! of sometimes if you heat the engine up with a heat gun the OWB will stop slipping. Good luck man!
