Please can someone help
Hi Everyone,
I am new to the R/C world and would like some help please?
I recently purchased a R/C car for my daughters 12th birthday. An obvious attempt to indoctrinate her into the world of Radio Control and to protect my new Heng Long Panzer III!!!
I bought a 'Hurricane Cross-Country' off eBay, pic below,
I followed the instructions i.e put the battery on charge for 8hrs, and then tried to run it. This is where the problem is, the car ran for a few seconds and then stopped. If left for a while it would then run again but not for longer than a minute. I've had a look for a loose contact or any obvious fault but can't see anything. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the fault could be?
It runs on 49mhz and the battery is 9.6V Ni-cd 600mAH.
Waiting in hope

I hate to say but.. #1, U got it off ebay
#2, Probably from radio shack, so you wont find any replacement's
#3, Hope you didn't pay over 30$
But as for not working, I've had some radio crap RC's and as soon as you flick the on switch it will short out ( shotty wireing )

Thank you both for replying.
Yes i know i took a chance with eBay but needs must for me.
Having said that I picked up the Pz III for 1/4 of it's rrp!
Would it be worth replacing the wiring?
I do have the remains of a 1:12 Subaru that found it's self under the wheels of a moving 1:1 Van!!!!!!
I think the electrics still work and i believe i have most the tools required to do the switch.
I wondered if this was a common problem with R/C toys or if I was just stupid!!
I've put the batt back on charge and will give it a good blast.

Ya, try to do a longer charge, and if thats not is, you could replace the wiring very inexpensively by using other RC parts..but just make sure there the same gauge as the origanals.

1: How hot does the esc (device that controlls the motor) get right when it dies?
2: What is the power output on the transformer that charges the battery pack? At 100ma the 600mah pack will fully charge in 6 hours or less. Charging for longer than that could cause the pack to die prematurely, but check you transformer to verify the power output. But, since its used the battery pack is probably shot. By chance do you have a voltmeter with which you could verify the voltage after charging? Or see if you cant put together an NiMh pack. Do you know what kind of cells were used? In the states we have stores that specialize in batteries and can build just about any kind of pack. Actually, several companies have these types of stores throughout the US, no doubt the UK has something similar. They can help you out if you are unsure about building a new battery pack.
Wiring seems unlikely. If that were the case, a sharp whack might get it operational again. Most likely its the battery or the esc.
Good luck, and welcome to the forums!

Amplifying what RCtruckRacer said about the charger. Be sure that the charger is, in fact, working. If it's not working then you could leave the battery on for a week and it still won't charge - and the symptoms will be exactly what you describe.
So, if you don't have a volt meter, get one and start checking voltages (and current) on the battery, charger and car..

the battery itself could be dead. And might only hold a small charge. Follow daves advice first i would say to make sure the battery is truly charged.
