Default Battery Padding

I'm setting up two of my gassers with the VPX 1100 cells. I'm going to run two separate packs and switches going to my 9 channel 2.4 gig reciever. The reciever will accept two power leads so I think this will work out well. I used to run one battery pack and switch, but over the years I've become to feel that a little redunency is not a bad thing especially when there is such a small weight penalty. I've been wrapping my recievers and batteries with the foam made for that purpose from a major rc manufacturer. The only problem is that after about 6 months or so the foam starts to deteriorate and crumble. I don't want to use something that won't protect from vibration but would really like to move away from the crumbling foam. I'm sure there are plenty of good ideas out there. Would you mind sharing??? Also does anyone know how these A123 batteries hold up in about 25 degree weather??? Thanks.... Bill

Use the standard PU furniture foam. It holds out well, and it's open cell structure provides excellent damping.

it is the Poly-Urethane foam for seat padding and matresses. In furniture shops to be had as scrap.

What is the difference between the PU foam and the latex type of foam DuBro sells?

At least one of those throw pillows on the wifes/girlfriends couch is made of foam.
The new temperpidic pillows foam should make an excelent shock absorber.
A large pair of sharp scissors cuts 3 to 4 inch thick foam near perfectly.

A large sharp kitchen knife works well too ....... take long strokes and it cuts right through the foam. Also, any good upholstery supply shop will have both the latex and urethane foams, as well as the new stuff. I'm kinda curious about the latex crumbling though ..... mine lasts for years. I wonder if yours is being exposed to some kind of chemical that is making it deteriorate.

I use a metal straight edge to press the foam down along the cut line, then I use a very long xacto blade to cut it in one stroke.

Thanks guys, for the information. I guess I will be looking for some furniture foam like PE mentioned and how to cut it up like the rest of you mentioned.
Truckracer, I may have exaggerated slightly on how fast this stuff deteriorates but trust me there are no chemicals around my house or the field that would effect the Dubro foam. I've been replacing this stuff for over 10 years and just decided there must be something better out there.... Thanks again everyone..... Bill

Hey Bill,
Let's take a close look at your wife's favorite couch, she might not notice a chunk missing!

Keith,
I'm afraid that if the wife caught me eyeing the couch it would cost me some new furniture. $$$ .... [img][/img] Bill

Download Googles free "Picasa". It will load your pics from your albums automaticaly. From there it's easy to export resized images to RCU.
