Default Electric Jet Factory composite F86

Anyone have one of these little F-86's. I was thinking of getting one but wanted to put a small glow engine. Anyone have any luck with jet. Robert from ejf said the toki .18 would work fine but I was thinking of mabey a .20 or .25. Any fans out there that would fit a .20 or .25.

Thanks,

David.

To use the .21 or .25 motors you need to find the Kress RK-20. They are out of production but, you can find them on Ebay. Mine flies great electric.

I actually have one. This kit is the original House of Balsa kit which was designed around the Kress RK-20 with a .21 engine. From what I understand, it was a dog with the RK-20. If you do go glow, get the RK-720 from Kress ([email protected] think) and put a K&B 3.5 or OS .25 VRDF in there. I'm almost finished with mine and will use the -720.

By the way, Kress still has a bunch of the RK-20 fan units in stock (so they said last time I talked to them), but I'd go for the -720...more thrust for a smaller fan.

The last thrust data I saw from Kress, which compared the RK-20 with the RK-720 indicated that the RK-20 produced more thrust than the -720. The advantage of the -720 was the reduced diameter, which allowed you to install it in a smaller airframe. However, when you run the two fans with the same engine on a thrust stand, the RK-20 will outperform the -720.

p.s. Joe Lupton had a HOB F-86, powered by the RK-20 + OS 25 VFDF on the jet circuit for years. It had very respectable performance for a .25 sized DF F-86 and was most definitely not a "dog" in the air.

Peter,

To be honest, I can't say it was a dog or not. This is the info I got from asking around (as mine has yet to be complete).

Regarding the 20 vs. the 720, I talked to Bob Kress a while ago and he was telling me the whole point of the 720 was to improve the thrust of the -20 for the same power (.21). Also, I believe their catalog has some performance data that shows the RK-20 puts out 2.5-3lb of thrust and the RK-720 does 3.5-4lb.

Either way, I wouldnt' put the Toki .18 in it. Too large an airframe and not enough power.
