Default flex shaft breakage

54 dumas scarab, 23 air cooled motor with a 275 prop, everything has less then 2 tanks of fuel on it run time and flex shaft breaks anyone have any ideas. is my boat to heavy for shaft or to much prop, motor seems to be reving out. thanks

I have the builders special from Tony at wharehouse hobbies, I put a new flex shaft in with motor out and it turns reall smooth flex shaft is well greased and grease is good not old and starting to dry out.

Check the gap between the drive dog and the strut bearing you need at least 1/4" ,as the motor spins the flex tightens and shrinks and if you dont have a gap your dog will bind against the strut and your flex will snap ,most likeley this is the cause so check it .

I have a flex shaft that I have been using in my cat for 3 years now, a good bent of brass tube would allow it to last for years, make sure your flex shaft can turn freely in the brass tube by using the hand.

Thing is it will spin easy by hand but if theres no gap or very little it will tighten and bind so i still say check the gap .
