Default What engines are good in rc10gt?

I have an rc10gt rtr plus and was curious what engines are good for a replacement of the thunder tiger ones. I hear o.s. engines are good. Mine never worked right from the start. Please make suggestions of good choices and how the engines perform in the truck. Thanks!!!!

Most of the racers around my local offroad track run the OS .12 CVR, but the Fantoms are growing in popularity as well. If you are at all interested in racing I would STRONGLY suggest buying a .12 engine, and not a .15

Why do people only run .12s and not .15s?

rules and regulations, the .12 get the same speed as the .15's so its not a big deal, jus dont accelorate as fast. Anyways, yah the .12 fantom is great for its price, 100$ its probably the best engine you'll get at that price. You should look into it.

The OS .12 CV-R is also $99 at Tower and just as powerful. Great motor IMO.

equal? I think not.

Which one's more reliable, though; O.S. .12 CV-R or the Fantom .12? Just to mention it this truck is mainly going to be a backyard basher and maybe a couple of races I'll run with it.

The '03 Fantom .12 is rated at 1.25 hp, and my Fantom .15 powered RC 10 will wheelie at 45+ mph, in fact it will flip at those speeds just from the sheer power. I highly recommend the Fantom. You won't find a more powerful, reliable engine in its price range.

yah i must say, OS i have read is very easy to tune (i own a nova rossi .12) and its a pain in the butt but the Fantom wont take you long to learn, and the power difference is pretty steep and you could easily tell the difference if you did the tests, I suggest you go with the .12 Fantom, its godly for its price.

Here's a crazy question, with all of you guys talking about putting .12's in the RC10GT, what about putting a MegaTech m-16 in it?

well when i went from the TT .15 to the o.s. .12 cv-r i right away saw a increase in accleration even though the cv-r is a .21. I geared it for more speed and to take care of the pushing problem it had when id hit the throttle(tourque). It still would probably accelerate just as fast a a tt.15 and would deffenintly beat one in the top end aswell.

Holey *****, casey did a great post and he was right. Good job casey. Alright from experience I can tell you that the cv-r's are a hell of a engine, easy to tune, run great, and good power. The ONLY problem with an os expectingly if you are just backyard bashing and racing a little is the price, no not the purchase price but the rebuild. It cost $65 for the .12 and $72 for the .15 just for a piston and sleeve. The fantom I just got a couple of weeks ago and this thing hauls. I think the fantoms are just as easy to tune. The fantoms have more power than the os and more rpm's and needless to say are a little faster with more torque. The fantoms only cost about $35-40 to rebuild. More power+more rpm+less money= happy Jon

Oh ya the fantoms come with gaskets on all the carb. parts something that os overlooked on my cvr.

**Casey you said:**
SPECS: Displacement: 0.129 cu in (2.11cc)
Weight: 7.05 oz (200g)
Bore: 0.55" (14.0mm)
Stroke: 0.54" (13.7mm)

equal? I think not.

***Actually the OS cv-r (s) is the correct drop in replacement motor for the rc10gt. It already has the short shaft. That motor is $99 dollars at Tower. It is discontinued however so whatever is left in stock is what they have. So for the minimal horsepower gain I still believe these motors are equal. I will concede however that the Fantom is cheaper to rebuild. Either choice is a good one and he won't be disappointed with either.

Ok, guys, sounds like o.s.'s are good but fantoms are great. Before I buy, I gotta save. Ain't gotta job 'cause I'm only 14. This sucks!
I got a question for y'all. My thunder tiger never would work correctly from the start and I sent it all the way to California to the AE repair department from Georgia. They called and said they fixed it and had it running; supposidly. Got it back and it didn't . I still want it to be able to work, though. I didn't even get it broken in. Should I tell them to just send me a new engine? I have a whole nother post about this called Can't run rc10gt!!!! I recomend y'all looking at it. I really don't want to spend any more money on it because they gave me a defective engine. What should I do?

Buy or freebie ?

Both
Have AE replace your motor and buy the fantom if that's what you want for the days you feel like the extra power. It's a good feeling to have two motors that run. This way if one breaks down you can still drive.
