SF power expander tip. Safety first.
I noticed the extra unused pins on a 2 year old power SF power expander were falling out. The ones not used where you hook up the signal lead to your rx. Now I push out and toss the two unused ones per lead. I don't want little pieces of metal buzzing around inside my plane. Murphys law, if it can happen it will.

Take the time to understand what I said. The unused uncrimped servo plug connectors in the leads that connect the expander to the rx have nothing to hold them in place. With a 12 ch expander that leaves 20, 1/2" long by 1/16" round pieces of steel that could land where you don't want them to.

Might be crappy but there's probably 10,000+ SmartFly power expanders out there in use. Can you think of a good reason to make fun of a person trying to make people who have them aware of a potential problem? I'm sure my expander started loosing the pins because of a bad prop. It balanced perfect but had a warped blade causing lots of high freq vibrations.
So if you prefere another brand of expander, or have never touched, seen, or planned to have one in a plane of yours, kindly keep your thoughts to yourself.

Correct me if I am wrong... but are you referring to the pins inside the black plug that goes into the receiever? There is typically 3 leads that crimp or solder to those pins (inside the black end) +,-, and signal. You are saying since there is no wires crimped on the +/- pins that they brass inserts are falling out?
I don't see this as being a crappy quality proudct issue at all. There is just a small tab that holds the pins in place... they are user replaceable.. ie: guys who make their own extensions.
I think everyone is thinking he is talking about the actual pins on the main board of the board expander that the servos would plug into when it's really the brass connectors inside the servo lead that plugs into the servo itself which aren't being used because the receiever plugs only use the white wire.

Nothing like people jumping the gun and trashing product they have obviously never used over misunderstanding the description of the problem )

UR Right
I reread his statement twice and now see altavillan was talking about the Black covered Pins that go into the receiver.
I realize we only use the signal Pins and the other two are unused.
Why are there even Pins installed in the unused jacks from SmartFly?

I think its just a standard plug and Robert has maybe never thought about the left over pins. I cant say I would have thought about them myself now that I think of it,

A logical conclusion, untill your's has flown a couple years. Then when switching out recievers to 2.4 you notice some of those extra pins are sticking out the back a bit too far, and upon closer inspection, find a few are missing already.

I have units that are over 2 years old. I am still using the Prototype 14mz unit. I have never seen the pins fall out. I am not saying it didn't happen to you, I just have never seen it.
If you push the pin back in does it lock in place?

It sounds like he may have had some excess vibration that caused his to do this. It's probably just a good idea for the rest of us to keep an eye on ours, but I don't expect to have any problems.
