preview of my mad rudder outdrive tail
Its been a long time since i started buliding my 48 mono, have doing a few bits had to seperate one side an reshape it as it was a bit wonky.
this is my latest work (not finished yet) now i know its extra weight and over engineered but lets face it, its a ply wood hull filled with bodyfiller and run with a strimmer engine so loosing a little speed doesnt bother me, this is all about making some thing different and hopefully that looks really cool so what do you think.

Some nice work. Have you considered making the rudders breakaway incase of impact with something? Might save you having the transom torn out.

Nice work might be a bit heavy but looks nice,i have to agree with Matt though if you hit something its gonna rip the transom out.You really do need to have your rudders so they will kick back if possible, but you have done a nice job on the hardware for sure.

thanks mart, its not as heavy as it looks, but heavier than the items normally used i'll look into to making rudders that kick back.

Some rudders use a shear bolt idea where the bottom bolt holding the rudder sheers off on contact with an object etc so the rudder pivots up,some just have one bolt through the rudder hinge standoff holding it in the bracket so on contact the whole thing kicks back and pivots up like the one in this pic.
