Need to out run a friend
Ok here is the problem.
I have a Prather-46. I'm running a 26cc water cooled Zenoha with an Oniel brothers clutch and a tune pipe. I have a stainless prop that is balenced. I forget the prop size.
My friend has a Super G. It is all stock. I just found out that he has ordered a big bore carb with a velosity stack. As far as I know he is still running the can muffler. This is just what I know of. He might have a lot more in the works.
I want to know what I can do so no mater what he does he will not out run me. I do not think he will any way, but I would like a little extra just in case.
Thanks, Andrew

First of all, ditch the clutch...its just a power-robber.
Second, how much you wanna spend? Its easy to make your boat faster than a big 'ol super-g, just send your motor to toxic al at Toxic racing machines and let him machine it. He'll send you back a 6-ish hp motor that will spank the WHH boat like a rented donkey.

A super G is not a quick / stable boat. But the Prather is not going to be much quicker by design. Both would have to be 20 year old designs by now. You would be hard pressed to find a slower sport boat than either of these.
If your serious about being quicker regardless. Modding the motor will help. But a faster lighter hull would always give you an edge no matter what mods he did to the G. (Probably cost the same as a quality mod job too)

The velocity stack can actually hurt performance so there's a little help for you. Don't tell him that until he's been spanked.
Like JAW said, the Super-G loses its handling if he can get it over 50 unless he's worked on the bottom.
In order to put the whoopin' on him that he deserves you might want to invest some serious money into a better hull and more updated equipment.
Next, don't let him see this thread. We'll teach him to mess with you![sm=lol.gif]

I agree on going new hull vs engine mods. Buy one of those 200 dollar Falcon cats. That would provide a most cost effective spanking.[:-]

Thanks guys. I only run for the fun of it. I like to make a few hot laps out at the pond now and then, so the clutch needs to stay. You are right on the 20 year old boat. Maybe I will start to put together a new one someday. It is good to know that he will more than likely not out run me. Don't worry he will not find this forum.
Thanks again, Andrew

At least I have the since to get a new hull, and not spend a lot of money in a hull that will not support more speed.

Not necessarily. The longer I am in this hobby the more I come to realize how critical set up and prop choice is as far as speed goes.
