Default Landing Gear Reinforcement

Yardy,

I have purchased longer-legged, sturdier landing gear at my LHS for a 60 sized Staudacher that came with lightweight "flexy" aluminum gear. It was much sturdier than the stock gear, and did not promote bounce upon landing. I found the landings were much smoother and props, etc.. did not break. It did not add much, if any, weight to the airframe and was a much appreciated upgrade.

If you fly from a hard surface you could also tie the two axles together using safety wire, to keep the gear from spreading when you land. The downside is that it tends to catch on grass and will tip the plane over if you don't land on cement or asphalt.

Hope this helps,

I bought the Hangar 9 60 size gear for my stinger and it works very well and didn't cost a fortune.

B&B Specialties sells a set of stand-offs that let you use 3/16" or 1/4" music wire to strengthen aluminum landing gears. I have a set on my U-Can-Do 3D

LANDING GEAR REINFORCEMENT STANDOFFS
Our L.G.R.S. provides you with an excellent way to beef up your landing gear. They come in a package of 4 with self-locking nuts. We have found them useful on many of the Giant Scale Models. The sheet metal landing gears found in many kits are simply inadequate for rough landings. You are constantly rebending and straightening. Our standoffs are easy to install on the strut. A length of 3/16" or 1/4" diameter music wire (not furnished) is required. Painting the reinforcement standoffs and wire the color of the strut will help hide them. We have hardened Wheel Axles, Wheel Collar Pants Mounts, and Wheels to complete your landing gear requirements.

Specify 3/16" OR 1/4" SIZE $8.95
