Default tc3 with 7700 mamba

Hello,
I was wondering what is the best type of battery to use on my tc3 with the mamba max 7700. I finally finished the car, and want to figure out the battery situation.

I was thinking either a 2 cell lipo, or a pack, but I am unsure of what packs will fit, or if I could use a 8 cell, what kind of battery strap mod do I need to do because I have an upgraded chassis that is carbon fiber and it looks like it will only fit 7 deep.
thanks,
Rick

I have a mm combo and I use a 6000mah 2c lipo from maxamps.com its very powerful, huuge runtimes (charges to 6800+ mah), and is the same size as a normal 6 cell pack, but weighs less.

the tc3 will hold 7cell packs(side by side) the way it is, the 7700kv mamba doesnt need any more than that, youll be stupid fast already

3 HOURS [>:] I was thinking about lipo's for my xxx-s+g. But if they take 3 hours to charge I will just stick with single cells and just keep building them

1.5 hours still seems like a long time to charge. you'd have to have like 10 packs

Luchboxer, what are your run times? maybe the run times are that much longer to compencate for the long charge times. what are your charge times and what type of charger are you using?

I use either a Triton 2 or a Checkpoint 1030..

Probably take a little bit more than a hour? I charge at 1C (5 amp in this case).

Run time is good.. I never timed it, but I usually get tired of running before the pack is done.. LOL!

I'm getting anywhere from 8-15 minutes on some NiMh 3300 packs I bought at Radio Shack for $25, are the Lipo's that much longer?

What's the 20C stand for in the Lipo packs? I've seen some 5000Mah that read 15C or 20C.

I am sure I was getting 20+ minutes... a 5,000mAh pack should last 2x as long compare to the 3300 NiMH..

20C stands for how much current it can dish out.. 20 x 5 amp (5,000mA) = 100A

20+ minutes is long time, I guess it's worth it to wait for the Lipo to charge.

Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with generic Lipo packs, I've seen 7.4v 5000Mah (10C-30C) in the price range from $30-$150, what's the difference, do the cheapos fall apart or loose charge?

Yeah, the good thing about LiPo is that you can charge them ahead of time and they won't lose charges.. you charge it up, wait 2 weeks, and it is just as fresh..

You charge up a NiMH, a day later, you lose like 25%.. LOL!

Good to know, thanks, I feel like I'm starting all over again, I built my TC3 back in 2000, I'm running a 11T brushed with 3300 cells, back then this was pretty close to High end stuff, It's been sitting in my garage ever since and now all I hear about is Brushless and Lipo's. I guess this is what someone may feel like when they come out of a coma or something. (not trying to offend anyone who just came out of a coma).

If I go with a brushless setup, are there any drivetrain upgrades I need to make, my TC3 is all stock right now.

I didn't do anything to my TC4 FT.. I don't know if the Factory Team has any drivetrain upgrade compare to the normal one..

The key is to set the ball diff TIGHT! Don't let it slip.. or you will burn that up very quickly!!

Im using a maxamps 2s 6000 mah lipo with a MM5700 in a TA05 and it screams. The runtimes are LOONG and the pack takes one hour to charge at 6 amps. Will be getting another one shortly. by by NIMH packs.
